Customer Reviews of Budgie
Check this out At the early seventies, rock was the music that identified the younger generations and had it's touch of insanity. Budgie was a band while not totally original was raw and powerful, as you can hear on this cd, which is actually its very first work. How many times those riffs have been stolen over the years? God only knows. The best thing about this album is that you can hear the excitement and power of hard rock in an era when rock music was all about.
I love heavy rock!
This band is a decent heavy metal group. A power trio, they have a heavy handed sound. The singing can get on your nerves from time to time, but the album is great. Budgie never got much of a fanbase, but they were very good. They sound similer to Atomic Rooster. If you like this, try Trapeze.
Too often overlooked
From the moment that the sludgy, unison riff on 'Guts' comes pounding in, we know we're in for a true 70s metalfest. While they didn't define the era the way Zeppelin or Sabbath did, Budgie still left us with some great hard rock material. The liner notes describe them as a cross between Sabbath and early Rush, which, given the band's blend of ominous, detuned riffage and geek-squeak vocals, is not far of the mark. 'Crash Course in Brain Surgery' and 'Homicidal Suicidal' are two obvious highlights and 'Nude Disintigrating Parachutist Woman' (great title, that), an 8 1/2 minute epic, is pretty impressive. The production is minimal but good enough so that everything can be heard. For fans of early 70s metal, this is a good album to hear.
