They all stink. It looks good but mine absolutely reeks. Stay away from this one.
Just through mine out this morning
To the previous reviewer, your experience is not a fluke. There is a rank smell that comes from the inner casing. However, the main reason why I through mine out was because at our old sub-level apartment, the safe sat on an area of carpet that became a bit saturated (no standing water). Ever since then, we've had a mold problem in the case. No matter what kind of cleaners I use, I could not get rid of the mold. I probably kept it longer then I should have...but I paid quite a bit for this firesafe. If it couldn't keep my documents from getting mold on them while laying on a damp carpet...what kind of protection would it provide in flood conditions? I am very disappointed with this product. I'm going to stay away from the Brinks brand. Don't waste your money.
Be prepared to clean it!
The safe itself is functional and fine, but what I was absolutely HORRIFIED over was the stinky, rust-looking gunk and grayish fuzz that covered part of the latch when I took it out of the box. I can't even BEGIN to guess what this substance might be, but I can tell you it was like nothing I've ever seen before. I was able to get most of it off, so I won't return it, but it still has this slightly rank smell that I'm currently trying to figure out how to get rid of. The only other con is that the safe is a bit heavy, but I think all safes of this caliber are probably about this weight (23 lbs, according to the box). Overall, I would recommend purchase of this item, because I think my experience was a fluke. But have some cleaning supplies handy, just in case!
