Customer Reviews of Break N Bossa: Chapter 6
Re-Defining the Series - Stellar Jazz & Bossa I'm a huge Schema fan. The Milan based label features so many great artists and releases that it's easy to get sort of hooked on their sound, whether it be bossa or jazz or contemporary. This is the sixth installment of the highly successful Break & Bossa series that Schema's been putting out for a few years now - 8 in total if you include the American releases. This sixth one is a double disc set along a similar mold as the fifth one. The first disk is relatively unmixed (there is some mastering done between cuts) while the second disk is actually more of a lounge fest, not nearly as heavy on the bossa as Chapter 5 was.
The artists featured are terrific. You have a few cuts from Soulstance's new CD, some pretty exclusive remixes, and the unreleased tracks include a S-Tone Inc. feature, Gerardo Frisina feature along with a Gerardo Frisina Remix of a Frank Hernandez cut. Some of the general highlights of the CD include a interesting remake of Eli Goulart's Destino (This is a great remake! Check out Eli Goulart's original version though), Buscemi has some mellow jazz cuts and I dig the Big Bossa mix as well on the first disc. Vuca, a project by Stefano Ghittoni (Dining Rooms) and Stefano Tirone(S-Tone Inc.) is also featured.
All in all, this is a true Schema release. But mind you this is far more mellow and jazzish sounding IMO than B&B vol. 5. If you expect the same sort of heavy bossa ala the Conte sound, this isn't quite the same. But this is still a great double disk set. It's interesting how the sound on the Break & Bossa's have evolved thorugh the yeras - this is definitely worth checking out. Especially if you're also an Irma label jazz fan. And if you are looking for the heavy bossa as was in the fifth B&B, then never fear - Schema's putting together a couple of more bossa compilations that are slated to be released later in this year/beginning of 2004.
