The one product I couldn't do without.... This is the greatest thing for breastfeeding moms. I was discouraged in the hospital when "learning" to breastfeed. The nurse surrounded me with pillows and it was still hard to get the baby at the right level without really tiring out my arm. Getting "set-up" this way was so time consuming, especially with a hungry baby. The Boppy fits around your waist and holds the baby at the exact right height. In fact, you don't necessarily even need to hold onto the baby (although I do). At 2 months, he quiets down immediately when I lay him on it in my lap because he associates it with eating. It's even convenient when giving him a bottle because it supports the baby instead of your arm. I also use it to prop him up both on his back and stomach (which he likes). And, I've used it myself as support for my lower back and for lounging on the floor watching TV. I can't say enough about it. It's the best purchase we made.
Doesn't accomodate all nursing positions
This pillow is best if you nurse in "cradle" or "cross cradle" position. Being a "football / clutch hold" nurser, I found boppy to be useful only during my daughter's first 3 or 4 weeks of life. As soon as she started to lengthen out, it became more and more difficult to maintain her position on this pillow.
I, too, have run into "My Brest Friend" while meeting with a lactation consultant. Brest Friend is far superior to boppy in that it provides support all around, especially nice is the back-support. Brest friend also has a removable washable cover.
Boppy tends to lose it's firmness with time. It also has a tendency to slip away from you. While waiting for my Brest Friend pillow to arrive, I've been using regular bed-pillows during nursing.
My boppy is now used for baby as a back support for when she sits. So it is useful in some aspect, but as the nursing pillow it's supposed to be, it's just average.
Not bad, but there is better
The Boppy is a very nice multi-use pillow, but I also purchased a My Breast Friend pillow which I much prefer for nursing. MBF is more expensive and single use, but for nursing, it can't be beat.
