Giving this portrait a broader, rightly inclusive sense of how the blues has threaded through African American culture are performances by nominal jazz and rhythm & blues masters including Count Basie , Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Jimmy Rushing, and Dinah Washington, among others.
