Customer Reviews of Bleach, Volume 1: The Substitute (Episodes 1-4)
... Don't be mislead by the cover of some of these DVDs, this is not a Samurai story. But shaking that expectation off it's pretty darn good.
How good is Bleach?
Pretty darn good if you ask me...when I first the trailers, advertisements(whatever) on adult swim I really thought this was just another crap anime too cute for an older audience...well I was wrong. Watching the first episode I was intrigued as to what the story was about..pretty much you get the idea that Rukia is some kind of "death" that gives souls peace (in other words to move on)..sounds interesting right? Well, it is. From then on it goes into more detail on the whole shebang about the soul society, hollows, etc..it will get you hooked for sure..heck even the huge filler Bount arc was pretty darn good! Even though it's not done yet (currently on 131 episodes) there is a lot more to come for sure, I just hope that bleach doesn't fall into too much filler, as that can ruin a good show..just watch Inuyasha and Naruto..if you want to know what I mean. Good show recommend it to pretty much everyone (no nudity or stuff (maybe fanservice, but nothing major)..there is blood and stuff..but nothing on the level of Elfen Lied or Gantz..so it's good enough for even 8yr olds.
Pretty good
This is one of the better series hitting the market today. I found these first episodes cool the first time I seen them. Bleach has a very interesting story so far, with great character development, action, and comedy. There is a group called the Soul Society who's purpose is to help souls pass on to the afterlife. The ones responsible for this are called soul reapers. The soul reapers are samurais. There's two types of souls, one is called "wholes" and the other "hollows". The hollows are the evil ones. They waste no time explaining the situation behind the hollows. I was into it from the start. The main character who is introduced gets dragged into this. He kind of reminds me of Inuyasha. So far there is no annoying characters and its easy to follow. There is nothing to confuse you here. The episodes are mostly stand alone. Each is its own with some type of plot developing and a "to be continue" here and there. The animation and voice acting is good. The opening and closing themes are very good also. The dvd comes with 4 episodes and a few extras, nothing special in the extras to me. I really do like this series but I'm not going to collect them individually. I'll just wait for the boxsets to come out because this is a very long series. If you dont feel the same, then it doesn't seem like you have to wait very long for the next volumes because they're putting them out pretty quick, its like a two month wait in between them. If you like this I also recommend the new Guyver series. Its on fire.
