Customer Reviews of Blades on Ice
Only for the serious skater I subscribed to BOI along with IFS magazine at the same time. The magazines are very different and clearly are for very different audiences. I'd have given BOI a higher mark if the articles were somewhat well written, but they seem to be written by skaters who know how to skate but have little writing skill, and when reviewing reading material, my marks go to readablity. <

>The articles are very detailed accounts of exact moves in skaters' programs, exact jumps attempted, if they succeeded, their exact scores...lots and lots of numbers, but not as much on the actual person. This is why this magazine is excellent for serious skaters who are interested in the details of routines as opposed to those who are more interested as spectators. <

>The glossy full page photos are beautiful and can be pulled out to make nice wall hangings. This magazine is full of photos. On the other hand, the extremely poor quality of writing is embarrassing to read. Some interviews make skaters look like silly superficial airheads due to the interviewer's/writer's choice of quotes from the skater. <

>However, if all you're looking for is numbers, this might not irritate you at all, and so BOI might be perfect. If you're looking for more info on the skater's life and discovering who that person is off the ice, then IFS is a better magazine for you. ALso, IFS is a top notch professional magazine. BOI is clearly amateur...in the publishing arena, that is.
Great Figure Skating Magazine!
Blades on Ice is probably the best skating magazine being printed today. It has in-depth articles with today's hottest stars along with profiles on rising talents. It's competition coverage is excellent and it occasionaly has photo galleries. Unfortunately, there are only six issues per year. On the other hand, it is about 83 pages long and the articles are 2-4 jam packed pages each. This is a must have for any figure skating fan!
Wonderful Magazine!
The best figure skating magazine out there! In depth interviews with skatings hottest stars, great competition, tour and show reviews by some of skatings most tallented writers and the best photos around from the skating communities best photographers!
