Customer Reviews of Black & Decker BL550 ProBlend 10-Speed Blender, White
Gutless Wonder I managed to keep this blender in my kitchen for two years - but it was a loveless marriage. My then-roommate and I were mourning our recently deceased first blender when Black & Decker arrived on the scene, so we didn't pay much attention to the machine's specs and details. There were a few nice smoothies and blended drinks in the beginning. And then we tried to branch out - some gazpacho here, a little spinach there. The little blender blended these things, but not well and not without a lot of whining. Things started going downhill fast. Less than a year after BL550 came into our lives, it stopped making icy drinks without protest. We had to crush the ice by hand first just to get BL550 to even consider blending a drink. And if we didn't, the blender would threaten us with noise and funny burning plastic smells. We knew then that it wouldn't last, but a blender is a blender, so we did what we could to keep it going. By babying it and using it only to stir (and never to "grate," "grind," "chop," or any of the other promises it made) I made it last for another year. But then the motor finally died with a whine and a whiff of burnt plastic, and only a small batch of salsa in the jar. This was definitely the very worst kitchen appliance I have ever experienced. It has a nice glass jar, but everything else fom the lid to the base to the blade assembly to the motor is junk.
pretty good
nice blender. it's pretty easy to clean since everything can be disassembled and reassembled pretty easily. also, there are many speed settings for you to choose from.
Whiny at best
Horrible quality. Zero durability. Leaky gaskets forever. Don't be a sucker and pay anything more than $10 for it. Motor torque dies very quickly. Being an engineer, I know the amount of shame the manufacture's engineers have to submit to before (yep, you got that right, before!) this product hits the market, and I sympathize. But, still, run from this product like it's the plague. Don't, just don't, okay?
