Customer Reviews of Black & Decker AS975 First Impressions Iron
Does not work!!! I recently picked up this iron also at Walmart. Based on my experience with my friend's B&D iron (a different model though), I was hoping to replicate the same experience. After bringing it home and filling it with tap water, I tried to iron a 100% cotton shirt but, it simply did not iron. The wrinkles would not go away even after applying massive amounts of steam, maximizing the heat setting, ironing slowly with increased downward force... nothing would get the wrinkles out. I finally gave up after 10 minutes. Its going back.
Crackling and instant build-up on sole plate
I have owned three irons over the past year and a quarter, from $30 steam irons to a $120 steam generator, for pressing my sewing and machine embroidery and for ironing my husband's business shirts. When my one-year-old Rowenta Powerglide DE-013 began to increasingly spit, leak, and subsequently spot on fabric, I ran to Wal*Mart yesterday and bought the B&D AS975, for which I paid the same amount of money ($30). While it has not yet exhibited the flaws of the Rowenta, it has done the following:
- It begins making crackling noises once it has been plugged in-foreboding for an electrical tool containing water.
- Its spray-mist feature sprays over a very large area, and its direction is difficult to control.
- Its INOX stainless-steel sole plate accumulated an immediate build-up when ironing over a mist of "Light Body Magic Sizing."
Since I had a B&D years ago that lived several happy years with me, I thought that I would give B&D another try. I will, however, be returning the AS975 tomorrow. My hope is that I can find an iron that contains the strengths of the Rowenta-directed spray mist and ideal sole plate-without the weaknesses of spitting, leaking, and crackling. Based on past experience, I suspect that this may be a quixotic quest.
