A lifesaver!!!!!
We live overseas and use this carrier CONSTANTLY! It makes life so much easier. We don't have a car and use it in place of an infant carrier to travel on trains, subways and buses. It is easy to use as a bed and beats lugging the heavy pack and play around. You just need to make sure to keep it level so baby doesn't slide down when carrying it over your shoulder as a travel bed. It also fits perfectly in the back seat (when in the flat position) of our Graco Duo Glider double stroller. Our son loves to sleep in it and sleeps the same as he does in his crib or moses basket.

I do agree that if you are in the US with a car and lots of other carrying devices that you may not use this product alot. But if you live in the city with no car or live overseas or travel alot with your infant than this is a very helpful product!

The only other thing about the product is that when you are using it as a bed you have to keep at least one of the side zippers zipped up when your infant is in it if you are using it with the hood. We tried to leave both zippers unzipped because it gets rather toasty in there with it closed up. But the sides of the bed are a little floppy without being zipped and the hood lowers too close to my baby's head for my comfort.

All in all I think this is a wonderful product, at least the bed part-I haven't tried all the other things it turns into. I would definitely buy this again!! Many of the other moms that I live overseas with keep asking me about the Birds Nest and where I got it and say they want to get one for their next child. This is truly a lifesaver!!

another suggestion
If you are interested in a swing type baby bed/bassinet that is easy to assemble, very stable, and will fit baby for a long time, but are daunted by the negative reviews of this product [which I've never tried], I recommend you look into the Amby Hammock/Nature's Nest. It has a metal frame which supports a cloth bassinet via a metal spring which allows gentle bounce as well as rocking. The positioning cushions make baby feel very secure. It's portable around the house or traveling by car but you'd want to check it if traveling by air. We got one after reading the bulletin boards on the Baby Bargains web site and couldn't be happier.

A waste of your money....
We received this item as a gift in our baby shower. I was really disappointed when I opened he box and saw how complicated it was to assemble and to use. I had to watch the video because the instructions were not very helpful.
I wanted to return it to baby-r-us, so I took it to the store and they said that I couldn't return it to them, that I had to mail it back to Amazon.com (which at nine months pregnant seemed too much trouble)... so we didn't return it.
We used it twice, the baby doesn't like it at all, the blue and white stripes are very distracting and she can't fall asleep. Also, it seems very unsafe and the mattress is so thin that you need to put something else under the baby so that she doesn't feel the crossed bars that are under the basinet.
I would never use this as a carrier, especially since I have the baby bjorn, and you can see such a big difference in quality.
I'm very disappointed with this product and I wished I would have had more energy at nine months pregnant to return this product (you only have one month to return it).
I hope you don't get stuck with it as I did, since on the outside it looks really nice.
