Customer Reviews of Big Machines, Vol. 1
GREAT!!! EDUCATIONAL!!! MEZMERIZING!!1 I bought this for my 2 year old Grandson (whom I babysit) and he watches it everyday. He has favorite parts of each one, the cow poop scene on "The Farm Tractors" selection, blowing up the rocks on "Building a House", and scraping up the pavement on "Building a Road". Each day it's something different, depending on his mood, but we always watch the "tractor show". It is educational, I learned alot (and I have a college degree)! I think it would be too boring without the music and he loves the guys and imitates their waves. He knows Rusty's and George's waves and will ask you how they wave....you'd better get them right! I would highly recommend this DVD. Believe it or not, it is very calming, and keeps their attention for a long time. A good thing to put on while you are trying to make supper.
Boring and Poorly done
Okay, below was my original review and I now have to take it all back. My boy, girl, and I absolutely love this movie. It took a while to adjust to it as it wasn't what we had expected. In particular I think the entire farm section is aboslute art! Rusty for President. Anyway, my wife has been nagging me to change this review. I sure hope I didn't cause too many people to pass up this video (BTW I'm ordering volume 2 and my buddy is buying 6 copies for all his nephews).
All I can say is when you get it, watch it once or twice before taking an opinion.
Sorry guys, I bought this because it seemed like the general feedback was positive. My list of problems;
1) Music plays over sound of the machines. My little boy (2 1/2) is always thrilled by the SOUNDS of the machines, not some cheap muzak.
2) What's with all the tight shots on the machines? My boy wants to see the whole thing, not some small moving part.
3) Poor monologue. Not sure what the point was but they spent too much time talking when my boy just wants to see the machines.
Can't recomend it.
ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!!
My son has watched this dvd EVERY DAY since Christmas and is absolutely mesmerized. I even learned a few things about home construction and farm life, the first half-dozen times I watched it with him. He points out the same vehicles/tractors when we see them on the road and plays w/ his tonka trucks on the floor while watching. Not sure what we'd do without this. Planning to buy volume 2!
