Customer Reviews of Beyond the Sea
An Excellent Musical Tribute To Bobby Darin And His Memory! Bobby Darin was and still is one of the most consummate entertainers and performers of popular music that we have ever had the good fortune to enjoy and treasure. This Soundtrack "Beyond the Sea" is an excellent musical tribute to Bobby Darin and his memory. Kevin Spacey's performances on this wonderful selection of Darin's tunes are right on the money and quite a pleasant surprise. It is uncanny how Spacey brings these tunes back to life with an energy and style that is very reminiscent of the man himself, Bobby Darin. <

>It must be pointed out though that no matter how well Mr. Spacey has managed to perform this array of Darin hits, no one has or ever will be able to duplicate the mixture of energy, charisma, talent, and sheer will that made Bobby Darin the dynamic, exciting, and unique performer that he was. This is an excellent album and would be a great addition to anyone's music collection and I want to thank Mr. Spacey for all of his hard work in keeping alive the legend that is Bobby Darin! <

>Another crooner you might also enjoy is Monte Procopio. His CD, "Swingin' With Style" features an excellent selection of songs and a 13-piece band that really swings.
No it's not Bobby Darin, but it's great music!
I saw "Beyond The Sea" the other day. The movie I thought was ok, it was done a little weird as far as bio-pics go, but what really hit me was the music, which in the end is what the movie was all about anyway. I suppose I am in the majority of people of a certain ago group who really only know Bobby Darin thru "Splish Splash" and "Mack The Knife" and not much else. After seeing the movie though I am willing to dig a little deeper into his catalog. I wanted to start with this soundtrack though. Kevin Spacey sings all the songs on here and does a VERY good job at it. I thought of getting a Darin hits CD, but I specifically wanted the versions of the songs as done in the movie. I suppose also if I was at all familiar with the orginal Bobby Darin tracks I might see that his are superior and I'm sure they are, but if what you want is the music as done in the movie, here it is. If you want the real thing, search out the real thing. As far as this CD goes, it's just great music regardless of who is singing it. Kevin Spacey does a very strong vocal impression of Bobby Darin and the music on here was taken from Darin's original arrangements. Just great music!!!
Super pop album in its own right...cheers to Kevin...
Spacey certainly does not have to apologize for his voice. He sounds a lot like Darin on this CD, of course, but clearly he knows his way around a song. It will be a shame if he does not work on a second album, this time being "himself." I have not seen the movie yet, but hope to rent the DVD in a week or two. I became a Darin fan when he released "Splish Splash" way back in the late '50's. In fact, I have a clear memory of putting a nickel in a jukebox at the local diner to play the 45 for the first time. This CD has good photos from the film, nice liner notes, and happiest of all, the classic "ATCO" label that Bobby had his biggest hits with. While the song "Beyond the Sea" is my favorite Darin performance, I also love "Simple Song of Freedom" and several others included on this soundtrack. Only two tracks of 18 fail to impress..."Lazy River" and "As Long as I'm Singing"---primarily because Kevin shares the time with other singers. The other 16 bring back good memories of the 1959--73 Bobby Darin era. Way to go, Mr. Spacey. Maybe the film was not the hit you hoped for, but the CD is a home run all the way.
