Customer Reviews of Bellydancing: The Sensuous Workout 2 "Pure Technique" with Shamira
Beautifully simple--and simply beautiful Having been brought up on Neon's Instant Belly Dancer series (and no actual instructor), I next needed something less westernized and more middle east. Moving from Neon's scientific and thorough training in isolations and her dazzling party style, I hungered for belly dancing done sensually to Arabic rhythms. On a friend's recommendation, I bought Shamira's Sensuous Workout 2 (I skipped the 1 since I now know the basics). And am over the moon. <

>As a first choreography, I find this video excellent. Her 22 chapters of Pure Technique on this video take up circles, hip circles, double figure 8s, hipwalks and hip locks, and more going one at a time; first plain and then with arm movements or variations. Each of these 22 movements is later used in the choreographies. I love the sensual, pretty and relaxed way these movements are taken up. Shamira's teaching of these movements is unhurried and easy with not a moment of frenzy. You won't find yourself thinking-gosh, how can I possibly do this! The pretty femininity she adds to these isolations makes them fun to do. In fact I find myself walking around in little circles, so to speak, to the slight embarrassment of those around me. Oops. <

>In a sense, the 22 chapters take the isolations and turn them into simple but very lovely dance movements. <

>Shamira has three choreographies on this video set to the slow sensual chiftitelli, the addictive saidi and the irresistibly danceable maksoum. The choreographies use the 22 movements in different sequences. Shamira runs through the choreographies without stopping, from beginning to end. No breaks to review or breakdown moves now, no explaining. This is possible because of the 22 chapters of technique. If you've gone through those, all you need to do is hear her call out the name of the move and you can dance with her through the whole piece. That gives it a nice momentum and is also a nice lesson for a beginner in how to connect and flow moves. I except this will carry over to future choreographies one does. <

>One reason this video is great for a first choreography (or three of them, if you will) is that there's no intense layering in these moves. You won't find yourself having to shimmy while doing a large hip circle while coordinating your arm movements while swinging your hair-while smiling! Layering is minimal, keeping the moves clean and quite possibly adding to the sensuality. It doesn't look complex, and so is rather nice to watch and do. <

>Shamira is a doll of a woman. She moves and stands prettily and is quite totally feminine. She has a nice balanced rapport with the user and doesn't come on too strongly, or stay clinical and cool. <

>The music on this video is quite addictive and you'll find yourself wanting to get it, so factor that in if you're buying this DVD. The choreographies are obviously done to fit these particular pieces, so you'll want them. That said, once you master the choreographies you will be able to rearrange the same moves to suit other pieces of music as well. <

>The actual production quality isn't what I'd call stunning--though it is entirely workable. I might have considered taking a point off because of it but the rich contant--both quality and quantity as another reviewer has said--makes it impoosbile to take any points off.
Wonderful!!!
This dvd is great for all levels of bd. I have over 100 bd videos, and I can say that all of her stuff is excellent quality.
Great stuff
I love this DVD. Shamira is a good teacher and the camerawork allows you to see what she's doing. It's usually full body shots. I only have two small problems with it: she spends zero time on proper posture (this is sooo important in order to keep your lower back safe)...she reminds you once in a while about posture but never fully explains, so if you are a beginner please be careful and do some research. Also Shamira moves a lot, as in: she doesn't stress isolation too much, so keep that in mind, too. When all is said and done, though, this is a great DVD as long as you know and remember to use proper form!!
