Customer Reviews of Believe
Great Sounding Album-PERIOD I downloaded songs like "Prayer" and "Remember", not knowing Disturbed's full impact on the music world and regretting not listening more to my aunt's copy of "The Sickness". Something I want to stress is that I had NEVER bought a hard rock CD up until the time I purchased "Believe" on CDNow.com (BTW it's the best place to buy it and definately the cheapest!). I love the ENTIRE "Believe" album, even the slow-paced ending song "Darkness". This music is truly ground-breaking and air shattering with lead vocalist David Drainman's slashing voice. I saw "The Sickness" in a store a few weeks after I fell in love with Disturbed's second album and picked up a copy immediately and I found out that it is just as good. Don't like hard rock? It simply doesn't matter. I'm a country fan at heart so believe me when I say that Disturbed has changed my views...on the band, that is.
Better than "The Sickness" - yes, it's true!
I'm stunned! I'm finding it to be much better than their first album (which I greatly enjoy). No electronica this time - just 11 crushing, skull-pounding metal songs and 1 album-closing mellow song.
The guitarist isn't breaking any new ground, but his playing is tight, concise, and sounds massively thick. There's a lot more interplay between what the guitar & bass are riffing on and what the drummer is doing, creating some really interesting rhythmic stuff.
David Draiman, the singer, physically sounds better than he did on the first album. He sounds like he's either decided shrieking isn't where it's at or maybe he undertook some vocal training. The guy actually *sings* this time out, and it really works. He huffs & puffs a bit (as on the first CD), but it's an overall smoother and more musical approach he's taken.
If your liked their first album, this one will not surprise you, but neither will you be disappointed. Songwriting-wise, they've grown - experience? mileage? plain growing up? I don't know, but it works.
The CD itself is kind of cool - there's a full-length video for (what I guess is the first single) the song "Prayer" with a nice little intro that tells a little bit about the video and the song.
Best sophmore effort ever!
I heard Disturbed's first album and i was instantly hooked. The unique and different vocals combined with the heavy guitar riffs and excellent drumming makes for an amazing metal experiance that very few bands will be able to match. That was all that made the debut so impressive and with this effort Disturbed has even made a better album by correcting on mistakes that were made on the last album. For one the album now has more variations and maturity as compared to the last one. Tracks like darkness and prayer may not represent the heavy sound that was common on the sickness but allow for lead singer David Draiman to showcase his vocal range along with the amazing instrumental sound that the band can produce. This leads to the second reason why the album is a good effort, as each song on the album sounds better in terms of the music and lyrics these guys have made sure that u get an album that is not too similar to the sickness while not being too different at the same time. What u hav here is an improved effort by a band which has topped it's debut by improving on little mistakes or making improvements that tweak there sound.
