Typically, this skeleton is as much plot as Linklater provides; as usual, he's more interested in concentrating his talents on observing the casual, playful conversations between his leads. His tight time frame allows the characters to say anything to one another, and topics ranging from politics to past romances to fears of the future flow with subtle finesse. The short time frame is also cruel, however, because beneath this love affair lies the painful reality that the two most likely will never see each other again and will be left only with memories--an idea Linklater drives home with an effective snapshot conclusion.
Hardly the trite Gen-X bitch session that many '90s films using this approach become, the film feels more like a Bresson or Rohmer piece, containing sharp perceptions--and flawed humans rather than stereotypes. The protagonists' frank revelations and heated exchanges flow in a stream-of-consciousness style, and its no accident that Linklater set the film in Vienna, where Freud invented and practiced psychotherapy. --Dave McCoy

Customer Reviews of Before Sunrise (Spanish)
Amazing! I feel sorry that I watched "before sunset" before "before sunrise" but both were brilliant!
Best love story I have ever seen
For me this is the best love story I have watched in a film. There characters seem so real and there conversations are so honest you cant help but connect with them. This movie is highly recommended along with Before Sunset.
Touching, thoughtful if a bit talkie
This quiet, thought-provoking film--aimed mostly at 20-somethings who love to talk endlessly about the world and themselves and how the two fit together--actually ends up transcending its introvertedness and becomes a sweet, poignant story not only of one night spent together by two travelers, but of the human condition, of life and death, and of what it means to love. The two lead actors give very nuanced, subtle performances and invoke emotions without hystrionics. When you're in the mood for a 1.5 hour conversation about "the meaning of it all" from a youthful perspective, this film's the one to check out.

>I haven't seen the sequel yet, but I certainly plan to. It was apparently made 10 years later and shows the two characters--ten years later. Sounds intriguing to me. I really want to know what happened to them and how they look back on their night together.
