Translating Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean character from British television to the big screen takes a bit of a toll, but there are some hilarious sequences in this popular comedy. Bean, a boy-man twit with a knack for getting into difficult binds (and then making them worse and worse and worse), is a London museum guard who is sent to Los Angeles in the company of the famous painting Whistler's Mother. He's mistaken as an art expert by the well-meaning curator (Peter MacNicol) of an L.A. museum, but Bean's famously eccentric behavior soon causes the poor guy to almost lose his family and job. The insularity of Bean's TV world is sacrificed in this film, and that change diminishes some of the character's appeal. But Atkinson is a man naturally full of comedy, and he doesn't let his fans down. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews of Bean: The Movie

I loved it!
I absolutely loved this movie! I'll warn you that it seems that I am one of a few who do. Whenever I have friends over, they say it was terrible! This movie is all about being stupid but funny at the same time. Bean is one of my all time favorites, and I recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh! If you're a Bean fan, there will be a Bean 2, according to [...] Check it out!

Whistler's Mother
My opinion of this movie apparently differs greatly than that of those who view it as a failure. To the contrary, I thought this movie was quite successful, not just because it was funny and made me laugh, but because its worldwide gross is up to $237 million. <

>Bean is an engaging comedy (runs an hour and a half)and is certainly worth a watch. It's one of the few non-animated movies all ages can enjoy without worrying about inappropriate content. The soundtrack to the movie is EXCELLENT. <
>For those who aren't seeing the comedy in this movie- it could be that you are a warped twisted sociopath! HA <

>Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) works as a caretaker in a British gallery. He is a very bad worker (keep sleeping at work), but his bosses are prevented from firing him because the head of the gallery wants him as his worker. So his bosses send him to another gallery in Los Angeles, California. But things in LA goes wrong. An important painting (Whistler's Mother)arrives to his new gallery, and somehow Bean is supposed to present it to a selected audience, and to protect it as well. The thing is that Bean does not know anything about paints, and he is exactly the most unsuited man to protect the paint. <

>One of the funniest parts is the end. And I mean the VERY end. (After the credits)

Still Hilarious After All Of These Years
Rowan Atkinson brings his talents to America in "Bean: The Movie". They might as well have called this film "the Best of Bean" just for the fact that a lot of his most famous moments on the TV series are redone in this movie. From the turkey being stuck on Bean's head, to Bean falling asleep on the floor, fans will recognize a lot of the things he does. A lot of new jokes are in this movie as well, which brings originality to it and not just old used jokes. <

>The actors do very well in their roles and the star of the film does an exceptional job as the title character Mr. Bean. I have been a fan of this movie for years, and it's great that those who have never seen the TV series can see Bean now in this movie. Atkinson has become a star since this film, but it is easy to see why. The movie is just really funny and really does appeal to everyones young side.
