Customer Reviews of Bark
By The Numbers Airplane By this point in the group's career, things were a little iffy; their founding leader Marty Balin had left, which hurt the overall spirit of the band (as well as robbing them of one of their best songwriters). Kanter, Slick and Kaukonen took up the slack but they sound a bit tired and prone to repeating themselves here; anthems like "When The Earth Moves Again" and "War Movie" feel like warmed-over "Volunteers" rehashes (and "Volunteers" was no great shakes in itself). However, although the album makes no consistent statement and its performances feel for the most part by-the-numbers, two or three gems pop up which make this one worth getting for Airplane fans: the fanciful lick in "Pretty As You Feel", Kaukonen's jaunty country-pop statement of his feelings toward the band in "Third Week In The Chelsea", and Slick's songs (along with those on "Sunfighter") are among the last of any interest that she'd write, with the circular piano figure on "Crazy Miranda" being a favorite. Not an essential purchase, or even a very good one, but one an Airplane fan will want to own sooner or later for these few tracks.
Feel so good
Well I thunk, thunk, thunk thunk a lot about it...
This album is probably my favorite by Airplane. Maybe it
was the paper bag it came in. Maybe it's the fish on the cover.
Maybe it's only a dream.
Crazy Miranda? This IS all propaganda.
Law Man? Always walking in at the wrong time.
Feel So Good? Both night and day.
I don't miss Marty Balin on this album. Please! The man wrote Miracles. Need I say more?
Grace and Jorma and Paul and Jack? Finest kind.
Bark Jefferson Airplane
I finally capitualted and got my turntable fixed -- and this was one of the albums I most wanted to listen to again. Very solid songwriting and great Jorma leads.
I'm pleased that I've got a collectors item in my collection of albums but I'd buy the cd in a heartbeat if it was available.
