Customer Reviews of Barbra Streisand: Color Me Barbra
Barbra's First In Living Color In her second television special Barbra matched her initial triumph in "My Name Is Barbra." This time the one-woman show was in color and featured Barbra stepping into famous paintings at the Museum of Art in Philadelphia. Once more the camera defies you to take your eyes off of Barbra as she dons various period costumes and sings incredible songs (she is particularly mesmerizing singing "One Kiss").
In the second "act" of the show Barbra cavorts with animals and sings a medley of songs with the word "face" in it. This culminates with a song she sings to her pet poodle "Sadie" (the one the "Funny Girl" Broadway cast gave to her.) "Look At That Face" will raise goosebumps on the back of your neck.
The best portion of the show is the third "act" - a concert filmed in front of a large audience. Barbra gives powerful performances of "Anyplace I Hang My Hat Is Home," and "Starting Here Starting Now." Unfortunately the network "stacked" the audience with some very ardent Barbra fans who got a little too excited, clapped and cheered a little too loudly, slightly marring the soundtrack with their obnoxious over-the-top-enthusiasm. I can't blame them, though. I probably would have done the same.
Color me Barbra
Streisand doing what she and only she does best SING. Great sets and colorful costumes, but the real star is Babs herself. Highly recommended.
Lights, Camera, Music and The Voice!
PBS replayed this special a few years ago. My mom is a fan so I watched it with her. Wow! As a music video, it was years ahead of it's time and MTV. This is Barbara at her best! Color me, "Tickled pink."
