Customer Reviews of Baghdad Bob
Not bad but not great either! Worth the 6 dollars I paid but I'd say not a cent more. Especially the "bonus desert footage" which is a total joke, it only shows alternate views of the desert cliffs and some close ups on sand, big friggin whooptie-doo. So I guess they really mean desert footage quite literally. I loved watching this guy live while the unfortunate war was going on full steam, but this video misses some of his best quotes. The narrator has a kind of annoying voice to me as well, but that's just my opinion. Reminds me of the narrator from the Toology joke-of-a-documentary, maybe tht's why. Anyhoo, do yourself a favor and get one from a flea market or garage sale, etc to save money, cause you probably won't want to watch it more than once. I give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5.
Some funny stuff, more a documentary than comedy
Now that the war is over, we can reflect on what happened in that brief period, and we can put it under study. This forty five minute documentary is just that, it explores the man that was "Comical Ali" the Iraqi information minister, from when the first bombs are dropped on Baghdad to the last day of the war. It is hilarious to hear "Baghdad Bob" say such classics as "They are trapped" and "The American Villains".
However, this is actually a serious documentary, more serious than the cover suggests. It gives a good look at the specific biography of the man, as well as a serious psychological analysis trying to figure out if the man was simply delusional, or a man trapped in a catch 22.
It's an entertaining and informative movie, we see a lot of the press conferences that were glossed over as people watched the war coverage more intensely focused on the embedded reporters and the Donald Rumsfield press conferences. I'd recommend this movie if you are interested in one of the most interesting characters in the Iraq-U.S. war.
