Customer Reviews of Bad Santa
Bad Santa is bad. I rented this movie after hearing how funny it was. Unfortunately, instead of laughing it just made me sad and angry. The way the boy was treated was nothing short of child abuse. I have a sick enough sense of humor that I like a lot of dark comedies, but this movie was just plain mean-spirited. If they had left out the boy altogether is might have been funny. <
>I can't recommend this.
Dark Humor
<
>"Bad Santa" is an interesting film that I saw on DSTV which would appeal to those who love dark humor or are open minded. I do not particularly like dark humor and I kept on wishing to change channels but never actually managed to do so and saw it all to the end. After that, I saw it again. This is a film about Santa, played by losers, conmen, hard drinkers.

>The actors performed their roles very well. Billy Bob Thornton was a marvel to watch, seeing his safe-breaking expertise whilst in his Santa outfit. He really is a pitiful figure, who commits all the cardinal sins, is controlled by liquor, a chain smoker, wets himself in his chair, fornicates and swears all the time (if he is not asleep). His only redeeming feature is some kindness he displays to the fat kid (Brett Kelly).

>Brett Kelly, the fat and oft-bullied kid from a dysfunctional family also plays his role very well, being happy to have any human attention at all, even that of a drunk (Thornton). You will get to feel for the boy who believes and hopes that the drunken Santa will somehow bring something good and positive to his miserable and loveless life. The diminutive Tony Cox makes an excellent companion to the mean-spirited Thornton, with his stealing performance. Somehow, with all the drunkenness, insults, unkindness and bad taste, there is dark and dry humor.

>If you are looking for a different kind of Santa or you are naturally inclined to appreciate strange kind of humor, then this film should appeal to you.

Bad Bad Santa
A friend of ours, Guy Gilbert, recommended this film as the "funniest I have ever seen"... it wasn't. There are good moments but not many. My suggestion to Guy was to watch 'Sean of the Dead' and come back to me...
