"Interludes and Examinations" presented the death of a major supporting character, while the two-part "War Without End" reached apocalyptic dimensions in a complex tale resolving the destiny of Sinclair and the fate of Babylon 4 (dovetailing elegantly with the events of the first season's "Babylon Squared"), resolving a 1,000-year-old paradox and presenting a vision of a very dark future for Sheridan and Delenn. All this was trumped by the monumental "Z'ha'dum." In the preceding "Shadow Dancing" Anna Sheridan (Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Boxleitner's real-life wife) returned from the dead, no longer entirely human. In the mythologically resonant climax Anna invited Sheridan back to the Shadow homeworld with no hope of survival. Just as in The Lord of the Rings Gandalf fell into the abyss at Khazad-Dum, so Sheridan took a comparable leap into the unknown on an alien world. --Gary S. Dalkin

Customer Reviews of Babylon 5 - The Complete Third Season
One of the best B5 seasons This is one of the best seasons of Babylon 5. It is a very dramatic season in which we get to see the escalation of the Shadow Wars, the participation of the rangers, the creation of the White Star, the deepening of the intrigue, the consolidation of alliances as well as being amused by many of the day to day interactions between our characters on the station (I have always loved how JMS manages to keep the humor going throughout despite the big dramas being played out in the overall story). The season ends with Sheridan's daring visit to Zahadum, leaving us with a cliffhanger as to the outcome of his last encounter with the Shadows on their home turf. <

>If you have not been hooked yet, this season will draw you in. This is as good as sci-fi gets. Great story, great actors, great script, lots of humor, incredible depth. There are moment in this show where the writing is so profound, one has the feeling of being the witness to a masterpiece of classic literature. A great show that makes one laugh, cry, think, ponder the meaning of life whilst being thoroughly entertained. What more can one ask for. <

The Best Season and the Most Even Season
3rd Season - "Point of No Return" - the Crisis - the entire season uniformly rocks, averages 8.25 out of 10, remains around that level of quality all season, occasionally reaches up to 10s and 9s around the midpoint and the closing of the season.

>War continues to spread. The end is phenomenally pitched. What a great year. Enjoy Marcus, Londo, G'Kar, the White Star, Zathras. Realize that the greatest moments of the series are to come, even as this period of the show is reliably the least disappointing and the most revealing in terms of plot. This is where JMS shot the moon.

>You miss the fourth season after seeing this only if you've been poisoned and the antidote's hidden in Nepal and you've got to get there by hot air balloon. I mean: it's must-see and it's brilliant. And I mean: you have no better things to do.

>In this five season circular story (talk about possible time issues), season 3 has all the action. For novices to B5, an Amiga 2000 (Commodore) did a lot to explore space battles and imagry and the graphics for the small screen have not been surpased, until "Enterprise" came along (but that only lasted four seasons).
