I like this mattress.
After reading some on line reviews, we purchased this mattress for our 1 year old daughter. We were previously using a foam mattress that was loaned from a friend. The foam one was sagging and we wanted a real mattress with lots of support. After testing several mattresses at the store we found this one to be just right for the price. I disagree with the person who thought the sides gave in under pressure. I did not find this to be so. And, I didn't see another higher priced mattress that held up better when pressed or stepped on. Since I too, want my daughter's crib and mattress to be safe I really looked at the sides of all the mattresses. Anyway, she is sleeping comfortably and I feel it gives firm support. I highly recommend this mattress.

Mattress has proven its worth
I bought this mattress for my baby based on the good reviews here. I, too, had originally thought the mattress was very hard, but I tend to sleep on soft mattresses. My husband thought the firmness was fine. My son is now 18 months old, having slept on this mattress every night since 4 months old (and napped in it since birth). Aside from the fact that his is a very active sleeper (he sleeps like this whether he is sleeping on the firm mattress or the soft bedding of his portable cribe), he seems to sleep pretty comfortably in the bed. With the addition of a quilted mattress pad, the bed seems actually quite comfortable to me. This mattress has pretty much taken a beaten because my son loves to jump around and run around on it in the mornings when he wakes up. It doesn't seem to be fazed by this activity. The quality of the fabric and stitching is superb. It is light enough for me to change the sheets myself, but heavy enough to feel like a REAL mattress that will last. I intend to continue using this mattress for his crib that converts into a toddler bed, and then the for my future children.

Not good for mom
I have a 3 month old and if I only had an easier time getting the mattress in and out of the crib it would have been great. I returned it and got store credit. I haven't picked a new one yet, but it will be one less then the 21 lbs. that's for sure. I change the sheets often and the mattress is at the highest point - it's only going to get harder as I lower it and with the snug fit it was more that a workout - it was painfull. My 2 year old has a great mattress, but I can't find it in the US, it's from Canada. Good thing my son is still able to sleep in his bassinet
