The Angelcare Movement Sensor has three modes of use, enabling parents to use the sensor/sound monitor well into toddlerhood and beyond, if desired. With the Sound & Movement function, you can hear your baby’s sounds, see sound lights, and hear a "tic" sound with every movement the baby makes. If no movement is detected, the "tic" will stop and after 20 seconds the alarm will sound. In the Tic Off mode you will not hear the ticking sound with every movement. However, you will still hear the baby’s sounds and see sound lights, and your baby’s movement is still being detected. An alarm will still sound if absolutely no movement is detected for 20 seconds. And finally, with Sound Only, the movement sensor is disabled, but you will still be able to hear your baby’s sounds and see sound lights. In this mode, the Angelcare functions as a regular sound monitor. For many parents, just being able to hear the sighs and squeaks of the newest member of the family is reassurance enough. For those who need more input, for whatever reason, the additional sensory features of the Angelcare can be lifesaving.
How the Angelcare Movement Sensor Works
A sensor pad is placed under the center of baby’s crib mattress on a flat, hard surface. The sensor pad cord passes underneath the mattress entirely, exiting the crib in the corner. It is then plugged into the jack of the nursery unit transmitter. The nursery unit can be plugged into an electrical outlet or it can operate with four AAA batteries. The same goes for the parents’ unit receivers (two parents’ units included). Turn the parents’ units on by selecting either channel A or B. Make sure they’re set to the same channel as the nursery unit. Set the nursery unit to the desired mode (Sound & Movement, Tic Off, or Sound Only). You may leave one parents’ unit in your bedroom and carry the other with you as you move about the house and yard. Now, depending on the function you’ve selected, you’ll be able to keep track of your baby’s every sound and movement.
Sound Lights
Indicator lights on an LED sound bar (on the parents’ unit) allow you to "see" your baby’s sounds if background noises prevent you from hearing baby. As baby’s sounds get louder, more lights illuminate.
Optional "Tic" Feature
When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement, it will continuously tick with every movement your baby makes. If no movement is detected by the sensor pad beneath baby’s mattress, the ticking will stop.
Movement Indicator Light
The movement indicator light is located only on the nursery unit. When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement or Tic Off, the movement indicator light will flash green with baby’s every movement. The flashing green light will let you know that movement is being detected, which will allow you to check on a sleeping baby in the dark.
False Alarms
False alarms are possible with the Angelcare Movement Sensor, especially if instructions have not been followed to a "t". Make sure to turn off the nursery unit after you’ve taken baby out of the crib. Also, once baby starts being more mobile, she may roll right off the sensor pad area of the mattress. Worth every penny.... ...for peace of mind. Rather than reiterate the countless positive reviews, I just want to address some of the few negative ones. First, there is occasionally some static and interference. This static is likely from outside sources, as we can cure it by switching channels, lowering the volume slightly (this is probably the problem -- we'll turn on her Baby Mozart real low and adjust the volume to where we can hear it -- at this level, you'll hear a cry just fine), or simply moving the receiving unit a few inches, as the static only happens periodically. Also, the alarm has sounded a few times, but I'm reluctant to call it a false alarm (unless our baby scoots off the sensor range, which is wide). For all we know, she stopped breathing and the alarm jolted her back (babies, especially newborns, often stop breathing for 10-15 seconds, so 20 wouldn't be unheard-of). I have no problem running in to check on her once in a while -- I'd rather hear a false alarm once a week than run in several times a night b/c I'm just not sure. <

>One other thing -- our daughter does not sleep well on her back, but usually sleeps through the night on her belly (and has since she was a month old). We checked with two pediatricians who advised us that this was fine, so long as we had the sensor. Of course, check with your own doctor if you plan on doing this.

We had a regular monitor but my husband was waking up about 10 times throughout the night to check on our son. Since we got this it gave us peace of mind--which is really the main reason I think anyone should really get this. If you are fine with a regular monitor and you aren't always checking on your baby throughout the night, then you may not need this. But if you will sleep better with a product like this I definitely say buy it. We have not had any problems with false alarms--we put a piece of sturdy cardboard under the mattress per other reviewer suggestions and I think that has been the reason why. If I am using the audio part of the monitor I have picked up neighbor's frequency but since we really only use it at night for the sensor element, this has not been a problem for us.
Peace of Mind!
We have two of these products, one for the crib and one for the Pack N Play. These units give you an immense amount of peace of mind as new parents. I agree with some of the design flaws noted by other reviewers, both none of these affect my willingness to use this product.

>The major annoyance for me is that the parent unit has a loud hum to it while in use. We've tried to identify a source of interference that is causing this, but after moving it to multiple places and turning off other appliances we cannot remove the hum. Plus, the same hum exists in both of our units so I think it is standard. It doesn't keep me awake at night, but it is annoying.
