Customer Reviews of Astar Electronics DVX-6881 Divx Cert. Dv
Cheaply made The Astar DVX-6881 at first glance seems like a great bargain. It plays pretty much any kind of disc you can find (except DVD-ram) including PAL region coded discs from anywhere in the world, which play perfectly on an American NTSC television. But the very cheap construction of the unit ultimately negates any of the positives. The first thing you notice when setting up the player is that the component video outputs are hardwired into progressive scan mode, which means you can't use the outputs at all if you don't have a progressive scan television and if you do have one, those are the only video outputs you can use. Much worse is the paper thin drawer that slides out and holds the disc. I have never seen such a flimsy disc tray an any machine before. The first time I opened it to insert a disc I knew there were going to be problems and, sure enough, after about two weeks of flawless use now the tray jams every time I hit the open button, whether there is a disc in the tray or not. Again, this happened after just two weeks of use. I don't expect this player to last very long and I highly recommend that prospective buyers spend a little more money on something sturdier. This was 50.00 I might as well have flushed down the toilet.
Excellent Product
This DVD-DIVX PLAYER is very good....it plays virtually all formats...the DIVX quality is awesome (if you have a divx movie encoded with AC3 -5.1- audio it'll will play it as a full 5.1 channel DVD movie)...the DVD player has all the ports you'll need...you'll have some problems playing various divx movies on a DVD disc....I suggest to put them indivudually on CD's....
