Customer Reviews of As Blood Rains from the Sky, We Walk the Endless Path of Fire
It really does make your flesh crawl Wow. This CD is indescribable. The closest words that could possibly be put to describe this album are on the album itself: read the nonsensical title and you have it for yourself.
From a musical standpoint, a drunken monkey could have made better music. Out of the 12 songs on this CD, there were two that had a somewhat definite melody, and two that had a definite beat, making three-- yes, only three-- less than mediocre songs. The rest sound like a drunk guitar player and someone else shooting someone with a machine gun.
From a lyrical standpoint, I say: what was that again?
Looking at the CD alone, I laughed. The first song sounds like something out of a video game, while the titles resemble random phrases of dark sounding words put together. Here's the 13th song on the album: "Fiery Death Consumes Miserable Demons"
All in all, this album has little, if any value whatsoever.
Guaranteed to give you a heart condition!
Finally, an American label has gotten the balls to unleash one of the most underrated, skull-splitting Death Metal bands to the unwitting US masses!! Sweden's own Fleshcrawl has received marginal success in the past with former label Black Mark, but now, a new world is opened to them in the US with the release of As Blood Rains From The Sky'. On the surface, you may merely pass judgment on them as another bland, faceless SLAYER knock-off DM band'that will be your first and last mistake! Fleshcrawl have mastered the craft of creating blistering sonic aggression while retaining the faithful nod to past masters, like SODOM, DESTRUCTION and the aforementioned SLAYER. This band by no means represents the under-achieving and over-exposed New Wave Of Swedish Death Metal, rather they exemplify the harshness and brutal nature of old school DM, when brutality and menace was key! Opting to focus on violent rage rather than scrutinizing melody, Fleshcrawl reminds us of the nature of true Death Metal!! Each track on the disc spews unapologetic wrath and spite towards the ignorance of humanity, while the riffage sweeps you into a whirlwind of lung-collapsing, bone-crushing agony that becomes so addictive, you actually fear to stop the disc'eventually sealing your own fate! Guaranteed to give you a heart condition!
AS BLOOD RAINS FROM THE SKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I own albums by Chris Rock, Bill Hicks, Dice, George Carlin, Spinal Tap and the Simpsons. This album is just as funny, if not funnier than any material by the aforementioned artists. You see, the absolutely lurid cover art, in combination with the band wearing sunglasses, superimposed over flames with their most metal faces on, AND lyrics like "Let's go f-ing DIE!!!!!" this release approaches a level of comedy not often found in death metal. Or is it found VERY often?
You see, As Blood Rains from the Sky rocks. Now Entombed rocks too. So do Electric Wizard. So do Neck, At the Drive-In, Death, Tool and Coalesce. But there aren't many albums that approach this. OH MY GOD, is this ridiculously AWESOME!!! This album rips like The Crown rips - just with more death. Lots more death. Like The Crown, the lyrics are dispensable, but I'll be damned if the music doesn't rock so good that they could be singing about the easter bunny, and I'd still love it. But seriously, between the absolutely driving double bass drum, guitars that just leave your face in shreds, and vocals that just puke through your head like you just ate old milk with a knife and fork, you can't lose with this album. Man, is the music the best death ever! If you like a mixture of "action un comedy", this is ALL you.
The soul purpose of this is to rock harder than anything - and that it does. No matter what, you should own this if you like completely over the top, bullz out metal - it rocks like only a few others. The cover of Exciter's "Swords of Darkness" is also the best cover song in the history of the world. I actually laugh out loud, I rock so hard. This is real death metal!!!
p.s. the drummer RULES! you air-drummers will have a field day with this non-stop blitz...
