Customer Reviews of Army Men (Jewel Case)
Exellent game! This game is great but has some glitches. Like in the missison Flotsom and Jetsom, I found out that you must put the back of the jeep at the end of the broken bridge. Then you get out and you're on the other side of the bridge. it takes some work to get in the right postion, but if you work at it, you can get across the bridge and rescue your men.
Great Game!
This is pretty much one of the best 3rd player combat games i have played, which says a lot. It is really high actioned, and has a great ability to keep the definition high with smooth graphics none the less.
Very Good
I really like this game. You, as a green sargeant, need to protect your people from the enemy: tan forces who are seeking world-domination. Starting out, you will be given a mission and some intructions. You have to complete that mission, after which you are given another mission. An example would be to eliminate a blue spy carrying valuable info inside your enemy's HQ. First, you'd have to use air reconnaisance to track him, then you'd go find him, blow him to pieces, and bring his information back to your hiding place.
You will be fighting in one of three landscapes: desert, bayou, or forest. In case you're wondering, the bayou terrain is mostly islets and bridges between them (and with a little effort, you can blow up those bridges :-)) with a few peaceful trees. Peaceful until they catch fire.
There are a number of weapons available: rifle, auto-rifle, grenades, mortar, bazooka, flamethrower (my personal favorite), explosives, mines, health packs, and the least-useful, a minesweeper. Each weapon has its own advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately, at any given time, you can only carry a rifle, a heavy weapon, and one special weapon. (I know that's much more than a real soldier can carry, but for a game like this, it doesn't seem right.) For vehicles, there are: Tank, half-track, machine-gun car, and one more (?).
One good thing about this game is that it is very challenging. I still haven't gotten past about the 11th level, which seems impossible. When you get stuck, there's a multiplayer mode to explore. (Even though there's never anyone to play with online, its still fun to beat the computer.) And if you don't care about finding somebody to play against, you don't need to be online to play.
BUT, I thought I should say... This game does NOT have a first-person view. Before I got the game, I had played one of the newer first-person Army Men games for N64. I loved it. This is the reason why I wanted to get one for myself. I bought the original, thinking it was going to be first-person, and I was a little disappointed at what I got. The view points downward from the sky, so that you can see the landscape surrounding you, but only seeing the top of the soldier's head and back (and where he's pointing the weapon). The view can make a lot of difference in gameplay.
