Customer Reviews of Arena
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE LIVE CD DURAN DURAN'S ARENA IS AN INCREDIBLE LIVE CD. ALL THE SONGS ARE INCREDIBLE. A GREAT PERFORMANCE. YOU ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE YOU ARE THERE. THE ARENA WAS RECORDED LIVE IN 1984, DURING THEIR GREATEST CONCERT TOUR EVER. THIS CONCERT IS WITH ALL 5 ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF DURAN DURAN. THIS ALBUM CONTAINS 1 NEW SONG MADE ESPECIALLY FOR THE DURAN DURAN ARENA LIVE MOVIE, THAT WAS MADE THE SAME TIME THIS ALBUM WAS RECORDED, THE SONG IS WILDBOYS. WILD BOYS WAS ALSO RELEASED AS A SINGLE AND WAS #1 ON BILLBOARD POP SINGLES CHART FOR 2 WEEKS. BOTH THE MOVIE AND THIS LIVE ALBUM WERE BOTH DONE LIVE AT OAKLAND CALIFORNIA. THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS LIVE ALBUM IS CARELESS MEMORIES. THIS LIVE VERSION OF CARELESS MEMORIES ROCKS, IT IS A LOT BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THE SONG THAT WAS ON THEIR FIRST ALBUM. THIS ARENA ALBUM QUICKLY SOLD OVER A MILLION COPIES DURING ITS DEBUT. THIS IS THE GREATEST CONCERT EXPERIENCE THAT ANY DURAN DURAN FAN COULD EVER EXPERIENCE. THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS EVER. ANYONE WHO LISTENS TO THIS CD WILL QUICKLY SEE WHY DURAN DURAN IS ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS IN HISTORY, AND A GREAT LEGEND. ITS EASY TO SEE WHY DURAN DURAN ARE LEGENDS AND ARE TIMELESS, WHO'S POPULARITY KEEPS GROWING EVERY YEAR. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS GREAT MASTERPIECE OF A CD.
Lackluster Live Album from Duran Duran.
In the classic sense, this is a very mediocre live album by Duran Duran. Many fans get irked by that statement, but it's the sad and honest truth. In 1984, when Duran Duran peaked in popularity, Capitol dropped this record instead of a studio LP to capitalize on the band's popularity. While the material here isn't terrible, performances of "New Religion," "Is There Something I Should Know," and "Union of the Snake" come across as perfunctory at best. Simon LeBon sings off-key one time too many, and the band members Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, and Andy Taylor perform with a clean efficency that strips the performances of any spontaneity. The only half-worthwhile track is a song that isn't even live: the killer studio cut "Wild Boys," which went to Number Two in the fall/winter of 1984. Take it from a fan of this group: skip "Arena" and leave it for the diehards and completists. Duran Duran's studio albums are way better than this.
Huge Fan of DD, but not this CD!
OK, first. To the clod who wrote that this CD is not live...shame on you. It IS live. The audience is mostly filtered out, NOT added in (if they were added in, don't you think they would have made them louder?). That's the biggest drawback to Arena; the passion of the audience is eliminated. Plus it has some really bad singing. You're better off finding a bootleg live CD than buying this one!
Also, don't you love those who keep posting 1 star negative reviews and then tell us we are better off listening to Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne? Why are they even listening to DD in the first place? And honestly, do you think they've even HEARD a DD CD? Incidentally, when was the last Iron Maiden or OO CD? Did they sell well? Didn't they both drop off the face of the earth (musically, that is)? I love the comparisons to NSYNC - this is 25 years later and DD and still around and going strong. Where is NSYNC? What was the last NSYNC album where they wrote the songs and produced? Oh yeah....there hasn't been one!
