Alright, but should have been better Easy to use word processor with a nice, minimalist interface. But it does have some minor problems. <

Great for creating and printing, but not for sharing.
I havent used Keynote that much yet, so this review focuses mostly on Pages. Pages is a great program for occasional users of these sorts of document programs, who want to whip up basic documents without much hassle. It has a simple clean interface, and has tons of very useful templates which allow you to create letters, for-sale posters, invoices and much more. Its great for me because with Word, I'm sure I could make templates if I took the time, but its nice having them all pre-configured for you. It's not specifically listed anywhere, but you can create formulated spreadsheets within documents which is very nice (but you cant import XLS files. In AppleWorks they had the spreadsheet in a differerent program, here its integrated. Most of the major formatting tools from programs like Word are available here, they're just laid out differently and to me are simpler to use. It also can export your document to a number of file types, including .doc and .pdf (which is great.) That being said, the only problem with this software isnt the program itself, its the 99.999% of the computing world that uses MS Office. Yes, you can technically import and export Word documents, but rarely does it keep the formatting perfectly intact. There's always missing fonts, headers are messed up, etc. So if you plan on using this just to create and print files for yourself or other iWorks users, then go for it. If you are looking for a cheap alternative to Word that you think will let you create word documents that you can share with others, then this aint it. It would be great if the world used iWorks but unfortunately when it comes to documents its still a MS world. (Argh!). And, yes it does have a very capable spell checker!
I love it - and it does have spell check
I'm loving the combination of the ease of use of the templates and the flexibility of the program. As an old Unix gearhead, I've long preferred tools such as LaTeX which allow you to focus on content instead of formatting. Here, you can plunk your text into a template and let Apple's designers worry about the formatting, or you can create a set of style names (like "Heading", "Subheading", "Chapter Title", etc.) and then create the formatting for each one later.

>Word Processors have had styles before, of course... but Pages makes styles the easiest way to do formatting, so that they actually get used. Visual formatting is used where that makes sense (e.g., placing pictures, rotating them, etc.), and the supplied templates are simply beautiful.

>Lastly, to correct a previous reviewer, Pages does have a standard spell check function - go to the Edit menu, select the Spelling sub-menu, and click "Spelling...", and you'll get a spell check of the whole document, via a dialog box that gives spelling suggestions.
