Customer Reviews of Animal Crossing
Relaxing It's a fun relaxing game. It has interaction between characters and things to do and look for.
Animal Crossing... an Addictive game indeed... (by Laura)
Animal Crossing is one of the most unusually fun, and addictive games there is. It is an amazing game that can show you just how far videogaming technology can go. Like all games, however, it still has it's strengths and weaknesses through comparison of the other games. I will share my opinion of: the bad, the neutral, and the good about this game.

>The Bad:

<
>1. Resetti the mole may scare younger kids. I will explain a bit more thoroughly about the character in the good. Although I think Resetti is humorous, he will yell at you a lot if you either forget to save; or reset on purpose to erase an event like Spike painting your roof black... Now, Resetti doesn't start out yelling at you. He gives you two friendly warnings before getting harsh, so at least you have time to prepare for his temper tantrums. There is one warning I would like to give the gamers out there, but it's kind of a spoiler. So, if you don't want any surprises bad or good ruined, just skip on to number two. For those of you who don't mind slight spoilers, the warning is this: after you reset your game a number of times (like 6 or 7) he will say he will reset your game and make you start from the beginning. DON'T BE FOOLED! This is merely a childish prank he plays. The screen will come back on and he will be like "GOTCHA!" and nothing will have happened. I warn you of this, because this nasty surprise almost had me upset. After he does this, once he will pull this about every third reset (you will notice a pattern after this point) with the same result: nothing happens, he just continues to lecture you like always.

>2. Your neighbors are not fully trustworthy. Never carry valuable items, or tons of bells (the game's currency) with you when you talk to your neighbors. There is no way of predicting how the neighbor will converse with you, and before you know it, you either lose most of your bells, or get your valuable item unwillingly traded for some piece of junk. Also, NEVER play card games with a camper. I suppose this is good for teaching children to be careful with their stuff, but make sure this doesn't effect their trust on people in the real world.

>3. Paying off your mortgage can be tedious. You will either have to fish or catch bugs until you are sick of it. You can do jobs for your neighbors, but there is little chance of you getting money from them. The "odd jobs" they give you, is better for getting furniture, clothing, and stationary. You can also collect seashells, but that doesn't really give you enough money to make it worth your while. That is good for the start of the game, however, so you can earn enough to get a fishing rod or net. If you are a real dare devil and you have the net, you can shake trees to get small amounts of money, a couple of pieces of furniture, and three or four beehives. You can use your net and catch the bees that fall out of the tree, but be careful that you don't get stung. I will not tell you how to catch the bees, but I will tell you this: don't aim for the hive. It doesn't work. I have tried this, and with painful results to my character... In the event you do get stung, your face will be ugly. If you absolutely hate the look, save and quit and come back to get rid of it. Don't shake trees without the net. It's not worth it, as the bees are difficult to get away from.

>4. Not very fun at night if you play based on your time. Although there are a few things to do, the store closes at ten or eleven pm (depending on the stage) and cuts you off from earning money from selling (one of the main ways of making money). On top of that, some neighbors can go to bed as early as nine pm, which is why I wouldn't advise asking for jobs at and after nine. What happens is, someone will say, "Mitzi borrowed my camera" or "Deliver this to Maple" but you can't do the job after nine when they are in bed. This means you will either have to decline the job (which upsets them), or agree to do it and wait until they get out of bed, which will likely be hours. Not worth it. The one thing that's good about playing at night, is there is the small chance you can meet Wisp. I will not say too much to avoid a spoiler situation, but I will say it's worth it to meet him. However, chances of meeting him are rather slim, and it has to be really late at night (were talking midnight here). If you wish to play at nighttime in the game, but your parents won't let you stay up, I suggest making your town have opposite time.

>5. The HRA system stinks. This is probably one area the game designers failed, although, it's hard to get a good system for a "beautiful" home when beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. It doesn't matter if your room is a complete masterpiece. If every thing is mixed or your wallpaper and carpet don't match, you will get a low score, and the HRA will say ugly things about you in the mail. There is a way to get a high score from them, but it's technical, concerning themes and junk. Make sure to tell young children that it's just bad programming so they don't lose self esteem and think their house is hideous. On top of that, the store owner forces you to join, so you have to deal with their antics whether you like it or not.

>6. The neigbors... are unpredictable. They are a lot moodier than they are supposed to be. I have seen two of them talking, one even getting a new outfit, and they both walk away upset. Befuddling. You can't even talk to them when they are like this. Also, save often if you want to guard your roof color. The animals seem unnaturally obsessed with painting your roof various colors without your permission. It's a pain. All I want to do is keep my blue roof... My mom has also noticed they can be rather insulting at times (particuarly the snobs and Gracie). Most of this is good natured, however, just keep a slight eye on younger children to make sure they don't develop certain attitude problems. This itself isn't a major problem, though. I didn't even notice it until my mom said something.

<
>7. The snobs can teach you acts of questionable morality. The main one I wish to address considers the lost and found at the police station. Players can falsely claim items at the lost and found. I have been there many times. Only once have I claimed something of my own. Just make sure you explain to impressionable younger children why it's okay to steal from the lost and found in the game, but NEVER in real life.

>1. Numerous glitches. The game has some glitches in it. If you don't like or want anything to do with glitches, this is instantly a bad thing. If you are slightly more tolerant of "beneficial" glitches this is can be a slightly good thing. If you pay off all of your mortgage (to the point you own an account) you can use the dopplegangler trick to earn numerous bells. I won't explain it in detail, for it's neither here nor there, but I will say this: express a little caution when doing the trick. It won't hurt the game, but there are certain steps you have to follow in proper order for it to be successful. This is probably the only "good" glitch in the game. The rest of the glitches, that I know of, can be caused by time traveling and are NOT good glitches! Time traveling can be done by changing the time and date on your game. While it maybe beneficial in some areas (like if you want Christmas in July), I wouldn't recommend doing it often. I have heard it causes some "bugs" including: not being able to hear music in your house unless your close to the tape deck (this I have verified to be true), and trees taking too long to grow (I think this is also true, but may be corrected by slowing down time traveling to only a single day at a time). On top of that, if you go too far forward or backward in time (believe me, I learned this the hard way), your town will be covered with more weeds than you can shake a stick at, you will get bugs in your house (nasty!), and if things stay a wreck long enough, your neighbors will move away one by one until the problems are dealt with.

<
>2. The storage systems. There is quite some room for letters and personalized clothing designs, but little room for furniture and such. A basement will help, but only for a while. If you are a pack rat like me, this could be a big problem...

<
>3. Teaches apple polishing. A term which here means: saying things to overly flatter your neighbors in order to get presents. I mean think about it, are you really going to tell Winnie her clothes are unflattering when you can butter her up to get a free outfit? I am not sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, so it goes in this section. You decide.

>4. This game is addictive. I guess this can be good, because games are only addictive if you enjoy playing them right? But I think this can also be bad, because it encourages you to play every day to see what's new. Just be careful not to become so addicted you don't have time for things in the real world.

>The Good:
<
>
<
>1. Teaches kids responsibility. You actually can learn a thing or two about paying off mortgages, earning a living, and being neighborly. Your character's mom may also give you a few tips on how to be social.
<
>
<
>2. The museum can teach players some real fascinating facts. It doesn't really matter what age you are either, you will probably learn at least a fact or two before you complete it. The paintings aren't really educational, but look closely at them. My mom recognized a Washington painting considered to be real, and I recognized a painting known as "The Embrace" in real life. One thing I do not understand is: why is Blathers afraid of insects? He is an owl, aren't owls supposed to eat insects? It is rather humorous, though. He seems to have something negative to say about every insect including the beautiful butterflies, and the ladybugs.

<
>3. You can name your place and character whatever you want! Provided it doesn't exceed the character limit, which is so short it's hard to do anything elaborate and is very annoying. Regardless, it's fun to come up with names. You can have only one town per memory card, but if you have a different town on another memory card, the two can interact which is very cool! On top of that, you don't always have to base your town's time on your own. You can arrange it where if you play at 3pm, your town will be 3am. That way, if you base one town on your own time, and base another on "opposite" time, you can play day and night if you want to.

>
<
>4. The neighbors can be fun. It's true, they can be a pain like I explained earlier, but they can also be delightful to chat with. You never know what could happen when you just speak to them. They can give you a gift, a quiz (which results in a gift if you answer correctly, although, some quizzes have no right or wrong answers and you get something anyway), a showing of an interesting letter, and many other unpredictable surprises. A couple of tips are: to use your common sense (like if Winnie asks you "Don't I look good in this?" don't say "I'm sorry..."), and don't lie to the guys that like to do push ups if they ask "Is *put name of object here* yours?" and you want it. When the snobs ask the question lie to them if you want the object and it is worth half of your money.
<
>
<
>5. The game acknowledges holidays. This includes your birthday if you have told them. How cool is that? Seriously, my neighbor, Pecan, was waiting outside my house's door to give me a present on my birthday! Other presents came for me in the mail! And during Halloween evening, everyone is in costume and wants candy! They also do a New Years countdown! On top of all that, other non-huge events also go on throughout the year. Like in June, there is a fishing tourney every Sunday. Tell me, how many games acknowledge real time and events, including your birthday?
<
>
<
>6. Teaches kids how to keep track of times and dates. Special people like Wendel, Saharah, and Redd come once a month or so on a certain date. If players want to see them, they will have to learn to keep track of the dates they arrive, and the times they will be there. On top of that, there are certain weekly treats like a guitar playing dog on Saturdays, or a pig selling turnips on Sundays, so this actually may make kids want to be more coordinated.
<
>
<
>7. Teaches the basics of stock marketing, and the work force. These are interesting concepts. Although fishing and catching bugs may be out of date for current businesses, the store owner, a raccoon who gives you a house and makes you pay off your mortgage, will make you work for him temporarily to help you pay off your first mortgage. This gives player a small taste of the trial and error of working for a boss. Notice how he freaks out when you change out of your uniform during work? He will accept it, but in real life I don't believe bosses tolerate such things well. This game can also teach stock marketing with the "Turnip Market". When players want to learn how to buy and sell turnips for a profit, they will need to learn to buy the turnips when prices are low, and sell them when prices are high. In real life, plain stocks work similarly. It's rather impressive that game designers can teach such advanced topics in a fun form for kids.

>Well, I think that about raps it up. Overall, Animal Crossing is a fun game. I do recommend it for any age, provided younger children are slightly watched. The game is pretty realistic though, and it is impressive what game designers can do.
Great for Ages 5-??
Not something I play but the kids are addicted! Fun game for little ones, very age appropriate for even the youngest gamer.
