Customer Reviews of Wild Angels
Her third album WILD ANGELS is not Martina McBride's best album, but there's some great songs. The title track became a smash hit for her, as did "Safe In The Arms of Love". The other singles, "Cry On The Shoulder of the Road" and "Swinging Doors" didn't do as well, but are just as good as the hits from the album. She does a good version of "Two More Bottles of Wine", and "A Great Disguise" is an impressive ballad. Not her strongest album, but it's pretty good.
Great songs
This is an album filled with some terrific country songs. There's the hits 'Wild Angels' and 'Safe in the arms of love' which incidentally, was also a big hit for Canadian country superstar Michelle Wright at just about the same time as Martinas version. Then there's the sad ballads like 'Phone's are Ringin' all over town', beautiful heartfelt ballads like 'All the things we've never done' to more uptempo numbers like 'Two more bottles of wine'. This album is sure to please.
A guilty pleasure
Back in high school, I used to be a fan of Martina McBride's music. At least her first 2, 3 albums and before my tastes in music evolved. I thought her first three albums were great, especially "Wild Angels". I thought Martina had a great voice. Next to Mary Chapin Carpenter, Martina was another country artist fave of mine. Now I don't listen to country music (most I find vomit-inducing) except for the few exceptions like Kasey Chambers and Johnny Cash. I haven't listened to Martina in almost a decade. I just lost interest in her music but once in awhile I like to go down memory lane and throw in "Wild Angels". I think the first half of the album is really strong but unfortunately the album starts to falter after "Swingin' Doors" (a personal fave of mine). The songs aren't nearly as catchy or as wonderful as the first seven songs. My only other issue with Martina I have to take up is that she doesn't write her own material, at least here on this album. I don't know if she has on her follow up albums. I have a lot more respect for those who actually write their own music but that is just my personal taste. Nevertheless Martina does manage to find some real gems on for "Wild Angels" like the title track, "Safe in the Arms of Love", "A Great Disguise", and "Swingin' Doors". "Wild Angels" may be flawed but it is still a good country album.
