Customer Reviews of American Apathy
Excellent stuff! Dope again, has talents only few metal bands possess. Continuous rhythm, and harmonic sound.
Not so dope
If nu-metal is dead, then nobody's told this New York-based four-piece. You won't find anything on here that isn't on a thousand other rap or rap-metal C.D.'s. So, much of the song material/subject matter on "American Apathy" (i.e. "F the police," "f the world and f you too," "b - tch," "bring it on," etc.) seems very cliche, contrived, rehashed, and all around unoriginal. In fact, with machismo/chest pumping and misogynist attitudes (which are both hard for the listener to take seriously), it seems that Dope listened to a lot of ICP while writing this record.

>Too make matters worse, the music and vocals aren't exactly innovative, either. Frontman Edsel Dope often sings in a way that almost echoes Ministry's Al Jourgensen to a tee, and the rest of the band sounds like a slightly heavier version of what you'll hear on any Marilyn Manson album.

>Tracks four and fourteen, the cleanly sung "Always" and "People Are People," sound tailor-made for rock radio. Elsewhere, techno cuts like "Lets F" are unintentionally funny, "F The World" sounds like it was lifted wholesale from a Manson demo, and tracks like "I Wish I Was The President" are just plain stupid. Songs like these may be satyrical, but Dope have been around for a while (formed in 1997, debuted in `99), so these songs seem really amateurish for a veteran band like this one.

>Now, I don't have a grudge against this band or anything, so I found that none of these songs were God-awful, and there were even a couple tunes (i.e. "B - tch (Alternate Version)," the cover of N.W.A.'s "F The Police," and "Burn") that were quite catchy and enjoyable.

>So, "American Apathy" is listenable, sure, but, overall, it's just not very interesting. If you're a Dope fan, you'll probably really enjoy this album, but everybody else should probably stick with Wednesday 13. Dope pretty much just get by on shock value, so after their novelty has worn off, they're just another generic, has-been nu-metal band.
Stick to being a drummer
Dear Lord, My IQ must have dropped at least 10 points for listening to this album. The good news however is that judging from the lyrics on this album my IQ would still be at least 100 points higher than Edsels.
