Customer Reviews of Amadeus - Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Rather good though a bit simple I just found it hard to believe Mozart could have been such a simple nitwit in real life, but then again look at the popular musicians of today. This is an amusing and engaging film with a "rock-n-roll" flavor, and definitely worth watching once. Conveys the rock-star quality of composers of a previous age to the modern audience. Mozart as portrayed in this film could mingle easily with today's "musicians", though they would have little if anything to teach him. Music has fallen on hard times indeed since Mozart's day.
Amadeus - Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Amadeus - Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition)~ F. Murray Abraham is a supperior cut since it allows the viewer to better understand the relationship between Mozart and Sallieri. It also adds valuable scenes for instance when Constanza Mozart is turned down by Salieri. For my part they could have added even more since I absloutely love this movie and I think they could have fleshed out some scenes even more (like another 30 minutes or so). F. Murray Abraham is stupendous in his role as Salieri and Tom Hulce is also great in his interpretation of Mozart. I love the music, the costumes and the scenery of this amazing movie and I think it is a movie not to be missed. Most definitely reccommended.

Bad, bad cut
The original version was amazing. The hard work of Saliery against the genious given for free to Mozart. Saliery continues helping Mozart, though he is humiliated by him. Yes, naturally he is jealous but at the same time he is nobel. The hard work of Saliery doesn't pay him, he comes to revolt against the god. At the same time Mozart destroys his own life drinking and wasting money. He brings the disaster on himself. It was a very powerfull conflict between the two completely different apporaches: the work and the talent, the reward and the gift.

>What about the new director cut? A few added scenes flattens the whole movie. Saliery becomes a jelous, evil mediocre seeking for pure revenge. He causes Mozart to loose all his pupils, he constantly tries to convince the emperor Mozart operas should not be performed. Saliery is the one who pushes Mozart to his death, he is responsible for the misery state of Mozart. There's no more conflict in the movie, there's a clear "bad guy" and "good guy" - finally a perfect Holywood film! So pity.
