Customer Reviews of Altec Lansing ACS45.2 Powercube Speaker System with 20 Watt Subwoofer/3Watt Satellites (3-Piece)
ACS45 ALTEC LANSING - Help Needed.......... This speaker system sound better than speaker costing 3 times the price. The only problem I have had, in 6 years, is something I brought on myself. The power cable going from the satelite speaker to sub woofer has a 5 pin DIN plug and I have broken one of the pins. I can't find this plug anywhere. Altec Lansing no longer carries this plug. (...)
amazing!
search no further!Ive had these (ASC48,s) for three years now and you wont find a better quality speaker system for the price. Get rid of those low quality 2 speakers that came with your computer, and install this 3 speaker system. Its very simple to hook up,a child could do it.Having a subwoofer makes a world of difference. You wont beleive the sound quality coming from the 2 satalites, and the center subwoofer.the total wattage with this system is 80 watts. (40 subwoofer, satalites-20x2=80)(I recommend going in this wattage range.)There is a input jack on the rear of the subwoofer for hooking up another speaker system if you wish. I intend on purchasing another Altec Lansing system for another level of my home.I will connect it to my present system, and control which set of speakers I want to have on by the use of an A-B switch. It will be another Altec Lansing!
Classics, through and through
I got these back in December of 2000 on a closeout for $100. They remain the best computer speakers I've ever bought. The bass is relatively accurate, the whole set is very fun to listen to, and it can get loud if need be.

>I thought the things crapped out the other day, and got some Logitech z2300s. I was woefully dissappionted- STAY AWAY FROM THEM! They sound horrible! They have NO midrange definition, even the bass craps out sometimes! These old Altecs, with power ratings that were far worse, outperformed them in every respect. If you could find them somewhere, buy them! I was so glad when it turned out that the audio cable crapped out, not the speakers themselves...there is just no comparison to these.

>There are some drawbacks of course- short cord, bass control on the back of the sub, weird on/off switch, etc. But these are by no means deal breakers.

>I've heard that the new MX5021's are comparable to these- the power rating are about the same, but the new ones have two drivers and a better tweeter. But these old ones achieve great sound without taking up so much shelf space, like the MX5021s do, even though the new ones may be better.
