It's not like listening to cable TV, however; you can receive only over-the-air signals from channels 2 through 13 in your area. So if you live in a big city, you might receive as many as seven channels. In rural areas, with fewer channels, you might be able to tune in two or three. But either way, you can probably fall asleep to The Tonight Show or wake up to Today.
The FR-A308 offers a modern take on the classic cathedral radio (Aiwa calls it a bullet design), with a green LED display set against a glistening black contour. The dual alarms can be set to either a beep tone or any of the four analog bands (AM, FM, TV, or weather).
Although the FR-308 accepts a battery backup--a 9-volt battery is required--it doesn't work like most backups. Most clock radios with battery backup typically shut down when power is lost but preserve the correct time when power is restored. The FR-308 backs up the clock and alarm for about 10 minutes, letting you unplug and move the unit without interruption.
This clock radio can seem confusing to tune at first because the lower end of the TV band is combined with the FM radio. Just remember that you have to adjust a switch on the side of the radio to give you one of three settings: the AM band, FM with TV channels 2 through 6, and weather with TV channels 7 through 13. Once you've mastered it, you'll shift quickly between radio, weather, and TV. The FR-A308's versatile four-band option can be matched by few clock radios.
Pros:
- Four bands: AM/FM/TV/Weather
- Easy access to all controls
Cons:
- Confusing tuning dial
- Reception on TV and weather bands not as reliable as on AM and FM

Customer Reviews of Aiwa FRA308 AM/FM Clock Radio with TV & Weather band
Well...it's ok I guess The overall features are nice and the form factor is small allowing it to fit nicely on a nightstand. The TV band coverage only goes to channel 13, so you're limited there. If you can get the "wire" antenna positioned well, the reception is decent...as decent as you can get from a "dial" tuner rather than a digital tuner. The weather band comes in nicely and has helped me out a number of times from being drenched from an afternoon rainstorm by listening to the forecast. <
>Once again, overall nice, with many quirks, but as an alarm clock it does its job. Yes the dials, buttons, dial positions, and sound could be improved. <
>Here's the deal: If you can get this cheap...say for under 15 dollars, then in my opinion, the cost to value ratio is in your favor. You get a radio, alarm clock, tv sound, and weather for your money. Not bad. I bought this in January of 2000 and it's still on and working fine.
Poor design = annoying to use
I really liked this clock at first, but then I discovered that their placement of controls was really poor. They've got a volume wheel on the left and a tuning wheel on the right. Not only are these easy to confuse (and the tuning is really difficult), but I find I bump them all the time while holding the clock, which I have to do in order to keep the clock from sliding away from me when I hit one of the buttons on the front.
In the future, I'll look for a clock with all frequently-accessed buttons on the top where that won't be a problem.
Sexy looks, plane tunes.
It looks really cool. Display is somewhat cirved up, so it may be a little bit inconvenient to see from below (that is, from your bed). Tuning is difficult, so I keep the same station all the time. TV band is impossible to tune in, at least in my neighborhood. Display is very beautiful. It is so bright that I usually keep it face off in the night. I would give six stars for the looks, but the radio is a bit disappointing. You can find a clock with digital tuning for the price.
