This elaborate setup proves surprisingly durable. The combat scenes in Airwolf are clumsily edited, but the scripts--though firmly in the cheesy techno-thriller vein of Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy--are pleasantly zippy. While Vincent may have gone on to a straight-to-video career (appearing in such sterling titles as Hidden Obsession, Indecent Behavior, and Animal Instincts), hes a persuasive and sexy pilot; he's got the same kind of rangy, athletic physicality that makes Kevin Costner convincing as an athlete. Add to this mix the ever-zesty Ernest Borgnine (Marty, The Wild Bunch) and it's clear why Airwolf outlived the similar series Blue Thunder. Most episodes feature international skullduggery with foreign agents trying to steal Airwolf and sell it to the Soviets or Libya, but there are enough clever details to keep you from objecting to the larger absurdity of the all-powerful helicopter. Guest stars include Shannen Doherty (Beverly Hills 90210) and David Carradine (Kill Bill). It's too bad Hemmings didn't become a regular; his sadistic, lecherous traitor gave the two-hour pilot some real juice. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews of Airwolf - Season 1
AWESOME HELICOPTER This was a pretty cool show with an awesome helicopter. The episode were typical spy stuff for the time. The show as it went on got a little silly. I mean how many scripts can you write that involve a Super helicopter? Plus Jan Michael Vincents drunk induced stupers put an end to the show. Ernest Borgnine was great. Too bad he couldnt slap some sense into Jan.
Airwolf DVD's - Great to see!
Glad to see that this great yet short-lived series from CBS Television has finally made it to DVD! I hope that the studios will continue to release the remaining two original seasons and any outtakes and unaired footage in succession to this package. I can't wait to see the DVD's, as I have all the original episodes (on Super Betamax tape no less) yet still need this collection in DVD also. This was a great adventure show with a great budget!
Airwolf; Great Show, Poor Quality DVD
Ok, lets be realistic here... This is THE 80's show about a superweapon that is basically unstoppable. Yes we've had this before with Knight Rider but in this case we have the awesome theme music and some excellent acting. (at least concerning the 1st season)
So I'd go out on a limb here and say its the best show of the 80's. However the presentation is lacking....
- Menu design is lacking any color or "life"
- No background music in menu's, no animations
- Poor box design... I can do better in photo-paint
- No attempt at cleaning up the image grain or sound
- 2.0 mono... thats right mono, could'nt you at least give us some sort of half assed stereo? Who does'nt have some sort of sound system in 2005?
- The pilot is edited to the TV verison, there is a "movie" verison which I own which contains some swearing and revised music (better music)
+ Its Airwolf
+ The first season is considered the best
+ The Music
