Integration of Organizer and Editor in Elements 3 provide a seamless dance between thumbnail organization and the deep power of Photoshop's image modifications for enhancements. Several innovative factors elevate Elements 3 into a class of its own.

>The power of the Organizer is in reaching across all your photos, displaying them as thumbnails, and organizing them in Tags (People, Places, Events) and Collections (roll your own). For the avid digital photographer, who collects several hundred to a thousand photos per shoot, the organizer is the first step in the workflow. When I pull the CF card from the camera and plug it into a USB port, the organizer automatically prepares to scan all photos to my hard drive. At a glance, I can decide which ones are prize winners, segregate them into collections, then enhance or modify them in the Editor. Imagine the power of this facility when you have 5000 or 10,000 images already processed. The smooth, seamless dance between Organizer and Editor really eases workflow!

>While the Organizer may be icing, the Editor is cake! Take a look under the hood of Elements 3 - you find digital imaging capabilities of Photoshop. In a one click process you can decide to do Quick Fix, which provides the intermediate user with slider Levels balance. A touch of Highlights or Shadows, a slight MidTone Contrast, perhaps a bit of Saturation, and some Unsharp Masking will do absolute wonders for JPEGs.

>The Editor also handles RAW files so familiar to the advanced user - files the camera sees and stores on the CF card without white balance or other manufacturer modifications. Some color balance can be done in RAW using 16-bit mode, but must be saved in 8-bit for Elements 3 to continue processing.

When you need curves, blend modes, and layer masking, Standard Edit becomes your workflow. These intermediate-to-advanced steps call on elements of Photoshop CS, the most likely underlying graphics enhancement engine. With a bit of delicate maneuvering, I was able to recover an early morning shot of Totem Poles at Monument Valley. Unfortunately, the sky was blown out because the camera was on spot meter and pointed at a butte below the horizon. From an initial mess, a gorgeous photograph emerged!

>Elements 3 is far less expensive than Photoshop CS or CS Suite, its big brother. Integration of Organizer and Editor is smoother than file browser usage in CS. Elements 3 is not the universal panacea: one cannot perform all Actions, there is no user's manual, and in some cases such as Windows XP SP2, the user may not be able to access the Help package. I have not found Adobe's workaround to be particularly illuminating.

>Nevertheless, for the dollars, Elements 3 is indeed a real treasure. The Organizer is intuitive - in visual balance. As to the Editor - at Quick Fix level, the digital photographer moves to an intermediate workflow stage. Amazing program for people with huge numbers of pictures
Overwhelmed by the number of pictures you have on your hard drive? I had over 3000 digital picture files and could never find which one I wanted. With the help of Adobe Elements 3.0 I was able to cut down on the number of poor pictures in my collection with only a few hours of review. I also tagged all the other images with a number of "sorting tags". You can have several tags per picture, and they're sortable with a single click of the mouse. For example, if you've tagged a picture "John" and "Vancouver", and you click on the boxes for John and Vancouver, the software will limit what you see to pictures tagged both John and Vancouver. This is an amazing feature all by itself. With powerful editing features plus an excellent "autofix" mode and easy access to red eye reduction, cropping tools, and basic autofixing choices (balance, contrast, etc.) you don't need to worry about all the confusing options. (Blend, mosaic, etc.) I highly recommend this software. There's nothing like it. (It even offers many of the image manipulation features of Photoshop CS, which is an $800 program for professionals.) Buy this and your picture management and editing becomes easier than you'd believe.
 If You Are Looking For Something Easy - Save Your Money
I found this software very complicated to use. I purchased it because Adobe no longer supported my old version of PhotoDeluxe.

>PhotoDeluxe was so user friendly, easy to use, even for the novice user. PhotoShop Elements on the other hand is very complicated. What I could do with one or two clicks of the mouse, now takes four or five. The various tool buttons do not have 'drop-down' descriptions describing their function.
