Customer Reviews of Ad Noctum Dynasty of Death
Atmospheric, evil black metal for the already-initiated. Limbonic Art certainly will not fit the tastes and preferences of all black metal fans. Despite their use of electronics, however, they produce extremely brutal and chilling music. Unfortunately, Limbonic Art is a pitifully overlooked band.
For those who do not know, Limbonic Art has always consisted of two members: Daemon on vocals and guitar, and Morfeus on synth and some backup guitar and vocals. The band uses a drum machine rather than hiring session drummers. This fact instantly turns off many listeners right away, and causes them to dismiss the band as untalented, electronic-influenced black metal. Though Limbonic Art is strongly dark-electronically influenced, they are far from untalented. The drum programming is fairly tasteful and (mostly) realistic. It is however, brutally relentless in its blastbeats. This can occasionally make the songs seem monotonous and unvaried, though it does create a very brutal feel.
The music on Ad Noctum Dynasty Of Death is the epitome of Limbonic Art's brand of black metal: cold, astral, atmospheric, and uncompromisingly fast and brutal. The synth work on this CD is interesting; it combines cold dark-electronic interludes with classic symphonic black metal melodies and countermelodies. There are even some clean vocal passages that accent the synth melodies present. The majority of the vocals, however, are vicious screams of agony. Daemon has a unique voice, and he shows on this album a tendency to unleash blood-curdling nearly wolf-like howls and heartfelt moans along with his raspy screams. Though this CD does not hold together as an album as well as The Ultimate Death Worship, it maintains a very distinct atmosphere: cosmic, dark, and cold. There are some very memorable and even occasionally grooving parts in the songs on this disc. These parts (such as progressions from the end of "Dynasty Of Death", the end of "Pits Of The Cold Beyond" and the beginning of "Behind The Darkened Walls Of Sleep") provide a good balance to the frequent blasting, tremolo-picking sections.
Limbonic Art is not the most original black metal band. Musically they tend to stick to the books, excepting their unique black-electronic and even (almost) industrial influences and interludes. This CD is good for those looking to delve deeper into all aspects of black metal; it is definitely not for the lighthearted or those new to the black metal scene. For more traditional approaches on this genre, I would recommend bands like Emperor, Immortal, and Dark Funeral.
Night.
Sheer Brutality
if you want a mystical, dark, and extremely brutal black metal experience, look no further than this. While black metal purists may whine about the use of industrial-like electronics, but they just add a new dimension to the music. the title track and "behind the darkened walls of sleep" are my personal two favorites, but really, all tracks are excellent.
