Customer Reviews of Absolute Power
A highly engaging thriller... One of the best suspense-laden novels I've ever read, "Absolute Power" will make the slowest of readers tear through its pages with reckless abandon. The story begins in a lavish Virginia suburb, where a career burglar named Luther Whitney has been casing a particular house for weeks on end. The night he finally makes his move on the house, everything goes perfectly, until some unexpected visitors arrive. One of them is the President of the United States, and when he murders his mistress, Luther witnesses everything.
From that moment on, he finds himself immersed in a web of cover-ups, lies, and murder that rise to the highest echelons of government. This is one of those rare thrillers that will truly keep you riveted to your seat as you wonder whether or not your favorite character will be seen, caught, or who knows what! Definitely give this book a read. You won't be disappointed...

This is, without a doubt, the best book I have ever read.
I cannot say enough good things about this book. This is a story that grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. I read it in 2 days, and I recommend it to everyone I know. This book has got it all - an unbelievably clever plot, characters you root for, bad guys, good guys, and just a tiny touch of romance. I LOVED THIS BOOK. Don't see the movie, it doesn't even BEGIN to do the book justice, and they eliminate one of the main characters, Jack, completely from the movie in order to make Clint Eastwood the hero. After reading this, I immediately delved into "Total Control" and "The Winner". David Baldacci does not disappoint. I have just this to say to him - PLEASE, PLEASE write another novel! I am a huge fan of John Grisham, Michael Crichton, John Sandford, and Richard North Patterson, but I have to say, David Baldacci blows them out of the water. I didn't want the book to end. This is one you CANNOT miss.
Story is engaging
But the writing leaves a lot to be desired. The opening line tells you what you're in for: "He gripped the steering wheel loosely..." According to Webster's, grip means to seize or hold firmly, so by definition, gripping cannot be done loosely. This is the sort of annoying, unprofessional writing you have to look forward to throughout the novel. If you're just looking for an engaging story, you will have to suspend quite a lot of disbelief, but you may find the idea of this novel intriguing. If you consider quality of writing to be important, don't get this one. It was bad enough that I have not been willing to spend my money on another Baldacci novel.
