Customer Reviews of ACTIVISION Gods & Generals ( Windows )
An unfinished product can't be reviewed This is an incomplete product and therefore no rating can be given.
If you don't believe that Hollywood licensing with games is always a recipe for disaster, then take one look at this game. This thing was put together in probably only a couple of weeks. I am not exaggerating either.
The most aggravating thing about this "game" is how ineffecient the gaming engine is. With the low resolution graphics, this game should run smoothly on practically any machine. Folks, I am using a 3GHZ Pentium P4, 1GB RAM, and a Radeon 9800 video card -- and this game stutters whenever artillery is impacting the game field. Read any review and it will say the same -- the artillery impacts stagger even with high end machines. With graphics that, seriously, should run smooth even on a 486 this is unacceptable.
The game play is terrible. One Springfield, one shot. You can't reload, you must find another musket. The AI is horrible as well. You will face one enemy, five feet in front of you, and he will do combat rolls on the ground inbetween his shots (for no reason). He also is capable of reloading HIS musket.
Michael Shaara should seriously consider filing a civil law suit against Activision for this disaster.
Worst FPS ive ever seen
This is definately one of the worst FPS games ive ever seen. I spent $10 at best buy and probabaly got about 20 minutes of playing out of it before I threw it out the window. First of all It's got horrible graphics, there are invisible walls everywhere. Secondly you can only use muskets once, before you have to find a new one (the enemy uses it over and over again), or if you want to use the calvery sword you have to hit someone about 15 times by which time they have already killed you with there super fast reloading muskets. And lastly, the game is so short, in the 20 minutes I played it I beat the game. There are I think 5 easy levels. I think if you are going to spend $10 on a FPS save it until you have enough to buy Medal of Honor or Delta Force. Even to the biggest Cicil War fans. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!
Not too bad!
Okay, I wouldn't give this game 5 out of 5 stars, but it certainly deserves more than two out of 5! Of course it's no Medal of Honor! I knew that when I bought it! What do you expect when you pay $10 for a first person shooter compared to a $50 Medal of Honor? I know the graphics aren't as good, but it is a very unique game that has authentic weapons of the American Civil War period, historical backgrounds on weapons and battles the game features, and even clips from the motion picture. I've certainly had my $20 worth of fun out of it! I highly suggest this game. The graphics aren't the best, but all the extra material certainly makes up for it! Overall, I give this game 4 out of 5 stars. It's hard to find a game such as this, especially in the Civil War time period. Try this game. It's certainly worth $10!!
