Customer Reviews of A Nightmare on Elm Street
One of the Best Horror's Flicks of the 80's. When a scared teenage girl named Tina (Amanda Wyss) woke up from a bad dream, where a creppy, filthy man is always trying to kill her in her sleep. When the girl tells to her friends:Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) and Glen (Johnny Deep) about her nightmare that ended that her friends has the same dreams as Her. On that same night, after she told her friends, sleeping with her Boyfriend-Rod (Nick Corri) and then She wakes up being torture and killed by the man in her dreams! When Nancy starts dreaming about this Man, which he doesn't seems to be real and he always want to kill her Dreams and finding slowly-who the murderer and why for his brutal killings toward teenagers.
Written and Directed by Wes Craven (The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, Swamp Thing) made a clever, scary, horror/thriller-which is extremely entertaining. There's a good performance by Langenkamp and there's a genuine memorable small role by Robert Englund-Who's plays Freddy Krueger (The Horrible Man from thier Dreams), who ended up being One of the Most infamous undead Villians in Cinematic History. But Craven weaken the film with some of the dialogue, acting and especially the relationship between Nancy and her Mother (Played by Ronne Blakley) puts the film down at times. This Horror Film ended being a Box Office Smash in the fall of 1984. Still, this is Well Made and It's still worth seeing. DVD's has an good anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer (also in Pan & Scan) with an strong Digitally Remastered-Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD Extras are an fun running commentary track by Craven, Langenkamp, John Saxon (Who's Plays-The Father of Nancy) and Director of Photography:Jacques Haitkin (Shocker). Horror Buffs will love this film. Grade:B+.
Forget what you think you know, this is a classic
Before quite a number of people only knew him for the Scream trilogy, Wes Craven crafted this horror masterpiece that nearly put any film labeled with the words Halloween or Friday the 13th to shame. Wes Craven's original Nightmare on Elm Street introduced Freddy Kruger (played by Robert Englund), a menacing boogeyman (even more boogeyman-esque than Michael Myers) that would become one of the genre's most beloved and well known icons. Heather Langenkamp stars as Nancy; a young teen who begins having horrific nightmares involving a mutilated man with some sharp claws on one of his hands. The same happens to Nancy's friends, with some more fatal results, and Nancy soon realizes that this boogeyman is something more than a dream. While many of the following sequels were horribly inept to the original (except for New Nightmare: the only sequel that Craven would direct), the original is much more horrifying and suspenseful than it is credited for. The rest of the cast includes B-movie god John Saxon as Nancy's father, and a very young Johnny Depp in his screen debut as Nancy's boyfriend, whose death is one of the best in the genre.
Good night, Sleep tight, Don't let Freddy Kreuger bite!
I must say that this is by far the most...Incredible thing I have ever seen!!! A lot of people didn't approve of it(when I was 6 I didn't approve of it but more on that later.) Because this movie had a low body count.(Find out wich one did on www.freddyvsjason.com) But even thought the BC was low, the Blood Count was phenomenal. Remember the scene where whatsherface was wrapped in that sheet with blood all around it? what about when that dude got pulled through the bed?(I hate to admit it but to make a long story short I didn't sleep in my bed till the next time I saw it!) But I wont spoil the movie for you 'First Timers'. But If you are a first timer, watch this movie by yourself in the middle of the night, door locked, lights off, (And maybe some rubber pants and a blanket! If you think it's that scary) Good night, Sleep tight, Don't let Freddy Kreuger bite!
