Customer Reviews of A Night at the Roxbury
A night with SNL My title says it all. Will Ferell and Chris Kattan make a movie about their slapstick characters on SNL. This movie copies the Austin Powers formula of satire targeting the late 60's. This time it's target is the plastic polyester of the disco 70's and club music 80's with two goofball out of place throwbacks. The biggest problem with this movie is it's poorly written script. The jokes are so predictable you find yourself only laughing at the slapstick. Two brothers who are dumber than Jim Carrey was in 'Dumb and Dumber" work for their father in a flower shop by day and put on 70's clothes to hit the LA circuit by night. They are refused admittance at the hot club called the Roxbury primarily because they wish to cut the line as VIP's. They should have just waited like everybody else. They meet Richard Greiko via a fender bender and go in with him. The club owner is a victim of his environment probably too many drugs and has some funny lines. Overall except for a few stock jokes and good slapsick this movie tries too hard to be funny but the characters are not defined enough to be believable so it resembles a bad B movie at times. If you see this use your rewind button on the funny scenes, There are about three. The bottom line is that A Night at the Roxbury lacks any form of intelligent humor. This ain't good comedy!
Funny, sweet and with awesome dance sequences
Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan "ROX". (I know...an old joke!). Having never seen the "Roxbury Guys" sketch on SNL, I wasn't sure what to expect. I own the soundtrack and love all the music on it, but when it actually came to the movie, I was pleasantly surprised. My brother thought it was stupid but for rainy day, sit at home watching videos, leave your brain elsewhere entertainment....I highly recommend it. My favourite scenes involved Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon....but the whole movie was excellent especially the dance sequences at the club!!
Do yourself a favour....go rent it today!!
Oh great, another SNL skit run right into the ground!
After watching this movie, I have to say that the jokes run out real quick and physical comedy will only get you so far. The great thing about the original skit with the Roxbury brothers is that we saw celebrities acting just like bafoons picking up chicks, but when you're watching a couple of the regular bafoons trying to pick up chicks - it makes you wonder how fast the writer wrote the script. This movie is so bad, with the over-acting by Molly Shannon, I was hoping Chris Kattan would pull it out of the water in time...but the jokes quickly drowned.
