4 port usb 2.0 installed
I have a hp portable bought in the spring of 2002 with a 1.3 ghz processor and a 30 gig hard drive that came with xp. <

stay away from this thing
I got this USB 2.0 card and tried with my card reader and mp3 player. It sees the drives but as soon as you want to copy file to the drive it gives write delay error and corrupt your storage device. I had to format my mp3 player and lost my data. It does not matter whether you do it with powered or not, the result is same. I would say stay away from this junk

Great for older laptops, but requires external power
The laptop that I used at my workplace was equipped with only a 4GB hard drive that is nearly full. I needed to find a way to provide additional data storage for my business needs. Although the laptop included a USB 1.1 port for connecting an external storage device, I needed to take advantage of the high transfer rates provided by USB 2.0. Therefore, I decided to purchase an external hard drive along with this USB 2.0 CardBus adapter.

The device includes a USB 2.0 host adapter along with an external power supply. Although most laptops supply sufficient power to USB devices, it is highly recommended to connect the power supply to the USB adapter in case the laptop is unable to drive all the attached USB devices.

NOTE: This device does not work with very old laptops that do not support the CardBus interface.

For the most part, I have been pleased with this device. I was able to get it working flawlessly under Windows 98 SE without using the external power supply. However, after upgrading the laptop to Windows 2000 Professional, the system would immediately shut down after it detected and configured the USB controller. After spending hours looking for the source of the problem, I finally discovered that the controller required power from the external power supply. Since then, the device has been operating flawlessly.

Another problem with the device was its construction. I had to move the laptop's network card from the top CardBus slot to the bottom, because the USB controller's four exposed ports blocked the network connector. It would have been nice if the device provided a way to expose the USB ports using a cable or dongle.

Despite these issues, I highly recommend this product for USB 2.0 expansion.
