Katrina Rich is my Goddess!!! I'm surprised more people aren't writing in to praise this video, but I guess it hasn't gotten the attention or publicity that even the mediocre exercise videos of better-known trainers receive. It gives the impression of being a semi-amateur production, with someone taking a videocam into an exercise class. But it is great! Tough, but great. The first time I did it I wondered if I would be able to force myself to do it a second time--but I did, and I'm glad I stayed with it. It is so demanding that Katrina Rich, the instructor (and I guess the creator of the program) recommends one do it only once or twice a week. I do it on days when I'm not doing regular cardio. It's like banging your head against a wall--it feels so good when I stop. I thought 100 reps per exercise would wear me down to a nubbin, but giving the body several days' worth of recovery between sessions prevents that. Ms. Rich was a pleasant surprise to me: I expected some dykey drill-sergeant type telling me what I wuss I am, but she is not that way at all (although she could be, if she wanted to, with her "G.I. Jane" body). She is more like a supportive big sister (albeit one I would have incestuous fantasies about), with a warm personality and smile, and encouraging rather than intimidating. I'm very surprised she isn't more of a star in the exercise world than she is. I'm not sure I shouldn't give the tape five stars rather than four. I guess if Ms. Rich had worn a skimpier outfit I would have.
Solid Workout
What a gem of a tape. It's a grueling muscle endurance workout. It looks like she basically taped her class at a gym. The video starts out with a stretch. The instructor uses 10, 8, 5, and 3 pound weights. You start with the heaviest weight and when your form begins to suffer you lower the weight. The workout consists of 100 reps for 14 different exercises (e.g., squats, lunges, chest press, tricep extension, crunches, one-arm row, shoulder press, lateral raises, front raises, glute raises, etc.). You get a total body workout in about an hour. The only negative to the tape is there isn't enough stretching between exercises. That's a small negative in my opinion. This is keeper.
